Tonight's Hula show

Yup, so tonight was THE BIG SHOW, the big August show I like to do every year. Honestly, we put on one of our best shows ever. Any problems were really technical (and one was a HUGE one, more later,) and we made very few, and very small mistakes. Before the show started, I had some kids come up to do poi balls with me and they really enjoyed it. There were lots of old people there, too. They love this stuff. Most of them have been to Hawai'i and they know what they're supposed to be seeing.
After the show, some people came up to talk to us, and a few wanted pictures. That was really nice, and we hung around in the parking lot for about 40 minutes after the show meeting up with people. One woman came up to us and she was crying. She said she had been to Hawai'i and she missed it so terribly, but tonight had made her feel the spirit of Hawai'i. ^_^ The best compliment to a Hula dancer. A few people asked if they could hire us. I had to send them to the program director for our info, because we weren't allowed to "sell our product" as it were. I had to sign a form saying so before we did the show.
The only thing that bugged me is that, in at least one of the publicity flyers (there were a few,) we got billed as Jules (my last name) and the Hula group (our business name.) >_> Grrrrr. I know it was because this was all set up in my name and all, but we are a GROUP and that really bothered me. It didn't bother C & C too much, but it totally wasn't right.
And the biggest technical problem of the night was when we lost our sound during the song. And, of all things, it was the opening Tahitian number, the, you know, Show Stopping Number. Dude, and I SAW it about to happen, too. This is actually on video. We all come out, me with the wahine leo nui yell, huge entrance, total excitement. Then--you can see all this happening in the video--you see me start to lost the choreography. This is because I can see this one guy who worked there opening the door to the room they gave us for custome changes. My purse, clothes, and implements were all in there and I'm thinking, "That guy is basically going into our dressing room and THE PLUG TO THE SOUND SYSTEM GOES IN THERE OMG!!" (The extension cord ran from where we were dancing way the hell into that little room.) Thinking, "Here we go, losing the sound." I saw him open the door ... I saw him close it ... the sound cut immediately. Worse, he actually broke the cord and we had to spend five minutes as they searched around for another one, which was shorter, and then we had to move the entire sound system up a few feet. The guy totally didn't mean to do it, obviously, and he is a friend of my Dad's. But still, dude, WHY are you going into the dressing room? And why are you closing the door on the wire to the entire sound system? He did fix it afterwards, though, with lots of help from Jeremy, who was totally a show-saver.
So during that entire fiasco, we basically made some jokes and had some fun. I asked the audience if they liked the screaming entrance, and should I do it again, and they all said "YES" veyr heartily. When we got set back up and I did it, they all did it with me with lots of cheering and stuff.
At the end, we got a standing ovation! It was pretty sweet.
Pictures and maybe videos soon, perhaps tomorrow. Maybe even the disasterous video where the sound cuts out. O_o
