I went out to Tarzhey today to buy some dress pants for tomorrow, since it is the Boychild's adoption finalization thingie thing at court and one must look presentable. (After court tomorrow, in the evening, is Jo-chan's play. Then Saturday a party at Tim and Chrissie's!) That means no novelty Chinese dragon pants or horizontally striped sweaters with matching socks, more's the pity. It was a lovely, rainy day, just as fine as the Leto brothers in eyeliner, and pleasant to be outdoors. I stopped at the pet store where I bought some worms for Dana and chatted the two cute boys there, who are always so nice to me. Also, I picked up the new Stephen King. YAY.

Upon my return I went to this awesome website and got an incredible red Chinese satin shirt, gold phoenix Chinese gown with long sleeves, and a long black Chinese jacket with a mandarin collar for about the price of a week's groceries (sixty bucks) from a company that does not use sweat shops, and the shipping is free. It is my goal to look as much like an assassin as possible at all times. Except for the days when I'm at home wearing slipper socks and fuzzy striped sweaters over knit sweat pants.

ETA: I just looked at the name of the person who wrote me back to assure me that they are fair trade and no sweat shops. The person's name is Swallow Wang. I kid you not.

As I was placing my order, the phone rang. It was my town's community center. The lady said she had gotten my name (the wrong name; she kept calling me Jill,) from someone whose name I didn't catch, but I didn't care. They are offering me a job teaching Hula for about twenty bucks an hour (which sounds like a lot, but really it's just a one hour class, so!) starting in March. They can work around my college schedule and if it ends up being a success, then they'll ask me to continue and maybe even work as a town employee which would make all of the benefits available to me. Which would be so awesome! I said yes right away!

Then I was so happy that I ordered a scent from BPAL, "Winter Of Our Discontent."

New college, new Kung Fu school, new job, everything feels so exciting right now. ^_^

If it helps, they go up to a size 38 which is labeled "XL" but they do run small. I've got clothes from this exact same company only I bought them through a Disney store with the prices jacked about 10 times the amounts here. There is a sizing chart, but Chinese clothing is very clingy around the shoulders; if you're broad or have boobs at all, go larger.

What I do with Chinese clothes is I go larger if the sleeves are long--because my arms are ridiculously, stupidly long--and then I take in the waist and hips myself. Kind of a bother but the clothes are so cheap it makes it easy to expend a little energy. ;)

Dude, you'd love this it, coolest clothes ever. And I have to add a little addendum to my post because I just looked at the name of the person who wrote me back to assure me that they treated their workers fairly etc. The person's name is Swallow Wang.

My icon is for your JOOOOOOB! That's so awesome and major congrats to you! :D

It is my goal to look as much like an assassin as possible at all times.

This has endeared you to me, so much. You have no idea. :)

Is the BPAL stuff really as amazing as advertised? I have another person on my flist that raves about their stuff too, and I've been curious. How do you know if you're going to like the scent when you order it?

And congrats to Boychild and his now-official parents! That's so neat.

Whoop whoop! Thank you so much! I'm psyched! Dude, I could show you some pics of my "assassin" clothes. Sifu calls me "The Dark One" or just "The Assassin." I decided to run with it.

Re: BPAL: YES. They are awesome. They smell different on everyone, and they do often smell just as they are advertised. And I have gotten some scents I haven't been too wild about. You can trade them if you want or give them away. (I keep mine, because you never know.) The good thing is that when you order a scent, they give you free samples of other scents, in little tubes. That makes it worth the risk. Then you might find something that you really love.

I get one or two every two years or so. They don't go bad and the bottles look really neat so I keep them around. :D And it's just a lot of fun to read the descriptions and stuff too.

Thanks on the congrats! We just came back from court a few minutes ago and now we are going out to lunch. ^_^

I'd totally love to see your assassin-self! (But wait, isn't that against the assassin code of being invisible? *scratches head*) lol

I didn't know about the BPAL free samples -- that does make a difference! I've been over to their site once before, and really enjoyed their descriptions of their fragrances. I guess I'll put them on my list of Objects to Waste my Money On for when I have money to waste! :)
