sad news and frustrating paintiness

My worst news today is that I think I have to put my bird, Little Jon, to sleep soon. He's always had some mysterious thing wrong with him that no one--not the rehabbers who gave him to me in desperation, nor my good rehabber friend who knows everything, nor my boss--can figure out what it is. Rob said maybe beak and feather disease, which in itself would be a mystery because, well, grackles don't tend to get that. Anyway, after I moved him into the sunroom his feathers started coming back. Then I fed him tonight and saw that half of the top of his beak is gone, like he just pecked something too hard and off it snapped. And it's not a clean break, it's all jagged. He's still eating and drinking and bathing, but if he loses the rest of it before any has a chance to grow back, he won't be able to eat, then I'll have to euthanize him. And that's going to break my heart. Lil Jon has been with me for three and a half years. I like to think I've always done righ tby him, but who knows what I could have done differently?
My other--less depressing but just annoying--is that I'm trying to paint my stupid living room, and I just want to punch all paint right square in the vagina. First I had it this color that I thought was perfect: dark, warm, went with the kitchen paint. On my walls, however, it looked like Wet salmon.
I hated it. Then I went out and get a gallon of some cranberry kinda thing.
I loved it. I love red and this color was very stunning. Then I called my folks to say "Come see!" Dad liked it. Mom said, "Oh, wow! It looks very seventies!" I realized how completely right she was, and now I hate it, too. I think part of the problem is that I keep choosing eggshell, forgetting how awful that looks over stucco. It shows up every bump, which I should be downplaying. What sucks is that I also keep buying an entire gallon--GUNG HO, THIS IS THE ONE, I LOVE IT!--and then it goes to waste.
Thing is, I'm going to alternate walls with light and dark. I've got weird walls in this room, so I can get away with it. Then I'm going to do murals and some such.
See ... now I think I'm starting to like it again. But it has to be flat. As much as I hate flat paint (think of nails on a chalk board and that's how I feel about flat paint) that's the only thing that works with stucco and doesn't look seventies. I want something that goes perfectly with my gorgeous new Chinese style thingie in which to put other thingies.

I actually held both paint chips up to this specific thing to make sure it went perfectly. I'm sure it does, it just doesn't work in my room.
GOD! I hate paint.
