Clipping a mile post on your way home from work during a violent sneeze and knocking your FRIGGING SIDE MIRROR OFF YOUR CAR: Priceless. (Even though I now also have to pay for a new side mirror.)
Yes, it's true. I really did sneeze so violently on my way home that I swerved off the road, hit a mile-post and knocked my passenger side mirror off. This is also going to cost money that I do not possess even in theory.
Also true: Hard drive is what they call "level one" busted. They're pretty sure it won't be too hard to retrieve that data, but the hard drive really IS busted and has to be sent away. At first the guy was telling me numbers like, "eight hundred dollars" and then I just said, "forget it; the novel that was on there would never even MAKE eight hundred dollars, and I wouldn't even pay that much to publish it." After he talked to some folks and told them what the symptoms were, they figured it was doable and for about $200.
All of my music is on there.
The Geek Squad guy was really nice. Very young, a few years out of high school at most, and totally enamoured of all my Final Fantasy VII stuff. We spent a good portion of the nearly four hours that he was here talking about the secrets and mysteries of FF7, the plot, the side stories, Advent Children, pretty much everything. Before he left, he gave me a Geek Squad T shirt. It's really cute.
So, new hard drive, lots and lots of space--twice what my old one has--and probably not worth the money when I could have just sent the old one away and gone back to where I was, but I needed to be back online and so, here we are.
There are no apps on this computer at all. Just Firefox, Thunderbird and MediaPlayer. Which is really quite the joke, as I have absolutely no media.
But I do have the 30 Seconds to Mars tour dates, and one of them is in NY a few days after my birthday. So there is that. :)
