I just finished watching S For Stockholm Syndrome V For Vendetta.

Natalie Portman has decided she doesn't have to do much much in the way of acting anymore. The dialogue got cheesy in places. The ending was such a wheel of cheese that Salvatore Giuliano was shot for trying to smuggle it through Sicily. There was nothing subversive about it; it beat you over the head with its agenda. The romance was--just like in The Matrix--completely uncalled for and out of place. Also, V was unnecessarily sadistic in his "rebirthing" of Evey, and I found their entire relationship afterwards to be totally condescending.

Yet, against all logic, I adored this movie, and that's even without having once seen the gorgeousness and gorgeousity of hotter than hell Hugo Weaving. I just got right into the ideology, I totally reveled in its blatant anti-conservative/republican/Bushtastic agenda. I felt vindicated, for godsakes. Tim Pigott Smith, who played Creedy, even looked like Dick Cheney. And I think some of Chancellor Sutler's dialogues came right out of Bush's speeches. There was nothing subtle about the presentation of this movie's ideas on right wing government control and conspiracy theories, and I am totally okay with that. I love subtley, but the lack of it in a movie like this one won't kill me. I just giggled along with it, having a great time. I wanted to shove my fist into the air in total glee. I wanted to watch it with a bunch of right wing, propaganda-waving, fear-mongering pro-Bush-factioners just to see their faces, except that I don't want to be in the same room with them. I wanted to send copies of the DVD to that guy I used to date.

Oh, hell with it, I didn't even need to see Hugo Weaving's face to be madly turned on by all like six feet five inches of him. But just because we never did get to see him in the movie, go here and look anyway. He is so very much with the ridiculous height and arched eyebrows and I love him.
