Winter Rose is silly

Most people here have probably heard of "Winter Rose", or faire_damsel either from the Godawful websites, Portal of Evil, Wikipedia or the entry about her on Encyclopedia Dramatica. For those of you who don't, click on that link there and read "Facts about Winter Rose", which include a list of her claims, such as, "Eyes that can change colors. ("A Clear Crystalline Grey That Shifts In Colour From Grey To Blue, To Green, To Violet And Sometimes Almost Silver, Depending On My Mood And My Clothes. I Have A Darker Grey Ring Around My Irises {Said To Be The Mark Of One With Faerie Blood And A Natural Witch} And Unusual *Lightning Bolt* Markings In Both Irises. My Eyes Are Quite Cat~Like, Almond Shaped. People Are Always Telling Me That I Have *Faerie Eyes* And Saying That My Eyes Are *Ancient*, *Ageless* *Endless*, And *Full Of Wisdom*")", or Being descended from and taking the from of several types of magikal beings in her past lives. ("Among These Are: Elven, Selkie, LeananSidhe, BeanSidhe, Rusalka, Vila, Gwragedd Annwn, Mermaid, Siren") and Claiming that every fantasy artist who draws petite redheaded women uses her as a muse."

(It is a mean-spirited entry, to be sure, in that it makes fun of her weight, and I really hate it when people are made fun of for the way they look. IMO, this page would do better to stick to the way she acts and--god help us--the way she writes, because there is plenty to laugh at there.)

Well, you know me, and I thought that it might be fun to try to reach her. So when she posted her results of the "What Is Your Thanksgiving Costume meme, I pointed out that costumes like that were pretty insulting and maddening to real Natives. For a second there, in the thread, she hit something that looked vaguely like humility ... or, no, not real humility, or even reason, but something resembling it. She also told me that I was taking it All Way Too Seriously, Because She Knows That Dark People Have Feelings Too, Because She Is Descended From The Cherokees Herself, In Fact Her 7th Generation Grandmother Was The Cheif's Daughter And That Makes Her The Closest Thing To A Princess! (Yes, she capitalizes every first letter like that. And yes, she is obsessed with thinking of herself as a princess.) And The Chief's Daughter Married A Real Pirate! WOWIES!~~ Anyway, she must have made a visit to GAFF and seen everyone there mocking her overall craziness, vanity and greed, because she finally came out with And I Know Who You Are! ^_^ And of course the usual OMG YUR JUS JELLUS! *sigh*

But the punchline is in her entry in which she says, "UGH! It Really Drives Me NUTS To See All Of These Fried Sausage Skinned, ORANGE Complexioned {From Tanning Beds Or Fake Tan} Bleached Blonde Haired, Giggling And Jiggling *Britney* Clones Wearing Clothes That Have Been Part Of *MY* Personal Style For YEARS...."

And sadly, the irony is lost on her.

Rose, the thing that so many people understand that you don't seem to understand, is that there is a very broad line between self-love and ridiculous arrogance. You assume that because people don't convince themselves that they have ~~Faerie Blood~~ and other ridiculous things, that they have no self-confidence. You also assume that because people find these ridiculous claims funny, that they are unhappy with themselves. But the truth is that your ridiculous claims are actually quite funny. There's no getting around that.

Someone on GAFF also astutely pointed out what is really so galling about your ~~Faerie Princess~~ needs. This observant person put her finger right on it when she said, "The vapid wishing for endless 'pretties' is, to me, way more ugly stepsister than Cinderella." And that's not mocking; that's just exaclty how you come across.

Now for the record, I knew that those comments would be deleted, because they're not what she wants to hear, and not something she can answer with any kind of sense. But, well, I tried anyway.

Man, that shift-key abuse makes me cross-eyed when I try to read it (literally...I begin to defocus and see odd patterns and things and it's really distracting). But I have to say that I rather respect her last reply to you. I don't respect her ridiculous "I'm A Fairy!" nonsense, but I very much respect that she has been to GAFF, seen everything that has been said about her, and yet doesn't go there to troll or bring her toadies to fight on her behalf. She lets everyone else do their own thing, lets them mock her if they will, and doesn't take it too harshly (at least not in public). She doesn't let the anonymous comments of strangers on the internet affect her, and she doesn't seem to go about causing wank. She does keep to her own, and I can't help but respect that. Everything else she does may fall into the realm of the ridiculous, and as narcissistic as she comes off, she really doesn't seem out to hurt anyone.

It's a shame that nobody can make a dent in her logic problems or that weird-ass typing style, because she doesn't seem stupid or fanbratty to me, really.

I tend to think that if it weren't for the sheer number of people who knew of her and thought that she was ridiculous, she might do just those things.

I don't know...it may be more that it's part of her lofty princess attitude to just dismiss and ignore because she's above us peons. I don't really mind that, as if it keeps her from being a total wanker, it's good for everyone. Can you imagine the explosion of she actually did decide to wank? It would be great reading, but in the end it would be rather sad because she's just so very outnumbered.

I noticed she brought up GAFF...little dig there, just to let you know that she's not ignorant of what the world thinks of her. It's a bit defensive, but considering the magnitude of the mocking (two threads and how many pages on GAFF, plus a few other websites that I can tell), I still think she and her followers tend to handle it better than most. I also think that bringing it up was something of a pre-emptive measure because she didn't want that kind of wank in her LJ, which of course is her right. Hell, maybe I'm giving her too much credit, but it's just IMO.

IIRC, she and some sockpuppets did show up on GAFF a while back, and were promptly laughed right off. As far as "handling it better than most," she's still all about "You're just jealous!" and to me, that's handlign it pretty much the same way most wankers do, only she basically just says it on her own LJ. Where it is still funny.

You're right, there is that deflection, but despite what she says I don't think everything bounces off of her. It's a common defence, but maybe it's that she manages to say all that without sounding entirely condescending (or like a total moron) that makes me give her a little more credit than the average fanbrat (I know she does sound somewhat condescending, but I give points for the way things are worded ^_~). I also believe that she really doesn't mean to hurt or offend anyone (although a little less ignorance would be a very good thing) and just wants to have her ridiculous fantasies. I doubt she'll change, and as long as she doesn't write a history book, I don't really care. She doesn't turn bitchy-evil either. I don't know, I guess I'm sort of pitying her, especially knowing that on other sites people are making fun of her appearance, which is below the belt. Yes, I know that they probably wouldn't be doing so if she didn't fancy herself so beautiful, but that is a bit of a sore spot to me. People are making fun of the girl herself just as much as they are making fun of what she writes, which I don't agree with, and therefore I cut her a bit of slack in the way she responds.

She did show up? I don't recall. You wouldn't happen to have links to those posts (or the general page number they're on), would you?

The worst part of all of this, somehow, is that she has already referred to herself as being descended from a "Cherokee Princess." Anyone who knows anything at all about Native America knows that the term "Cherokee Princess" is not only the biggest crock there is, but also the most transparently WANNABE biggest crock. ALL redheads have fiery tempers and ALL Celtic-European people are flirty etc. Oh, and let's also not forget that she is descended from fairies, and has been famous people in her pasts lives--who are still ghosts roaming about her today.
