I'm in Florida. It's weird being in Orlando and not being in Disney. The air and water smell like Florida, but the rest is so alien to me.
Today was the first time I've heard people scream on an airplane. We flew out of NY during this insane windstorm; takeoff was a kind of thrillride, you could say. Well, we took such a sudden dip that a few people cried out. I have to admit, I grabbed onto my armrest really tightly in that moment. It was, as my aunt would say, "a real sphincter-clenching moment." O_o
Kekuhi Kanahele is here. I saw her in the elevator and I was struck mute. Actually, I was too shy to say anything, so I pretended to be reading my schedule. Wow, she's gorgeous in person!
(I was also struck dumb the first time I met Makaha Sons, and we went on to get to know each other really well. I need to stop being such an awkward geek.)
As it happens, public television is filming tonight, doing a documentary on Auntie Kau'i Brandt. I know I've blogged about Auntie Kau'i before, because she's my angel and I adore her. She's seventy something, works six days a week and teaches Hula for free on the seventh. She's got more energy than I've ever had in my life.
Out of curiousity, I picked up the Gideon's Bible here and turned to a random page and read a random quote. It was Psalm 150, the one about praising god through dance. That's nice. However, Psalm 149 is about punishing and executing the heathens. Stupidass book. (When I was in HI, I slipped a note between the first and second page of the Bible. It read something to the effect of: "As long as people believe in her, the land will always belong to Tutu Pele." ^_^ I couldn't resist.)
Well, tonight is basics class. Oh, and I bought a hugeass ipu heke. The price was right (unbelievable, actually,) and it's really beautiful. Only, how the hell am I going to get it on the plane?! O_O
