Long story short, the pool collapsed this afternoon while Jo-chan and I were swimming in it. Yeah, not so hilarious. It was a really big pool, and the water swept out in about twenty seconds into the neighbor's yard and directly in through their basement window. The damage to the pool is unfixable, and that much water in their basement probably is, too. And they're not the nice, fun, helpful, friendly, forgivey neighbors either.

And it's not like it was a crappy pool that wasn't maintained properly or anything. It was only a few years old and the maintenance was done professionally.

And aside from that, anyone who has spent any time with me in the summer knows that the pool was always my oasis. Even when I wasn't swimming in it, I loved to just look at it and listen to the water, smell the chlorine, put my hand or my legs in it. Listen to Bob Marley and read a book by the pool. Or just stare into it.

But, yeah, the damage, the ridiculous cost, and obviously the threat of not being able to pay off said damage. I really don't know what's going to happen. I feel bad for the neighbors; I mean, they lost a lot, too. I can't even imagine the kind of night they are having, either.

I simply can't believe how all these bad things keep happening. I mean, it's really starting to seem quite unreal. I have no idea how we're going to get out of this one.

Damn, seriously? Is there a warranty you can fall back on?

That is some serious shit.

Hey Bev. Just found out the warranty only covers 35% of the cost of repair or replacement. Soooo, yeah. Major suck. :(

I had to read/comment after I saw this on FB The only thing I can say is OH CRAP and in the words of Bob Marley "Everything is gonna be alright" It may be a few sucky days/weeks but you and mom will bounce right back, I know it. Crap happens to everyone, try a keep yourself level headed. Use some kung fu to get out frustrations, and get your sense of humor back.
Miss you. Tricia

Yes, crap does happen to everyone but that doesn't make it fun when it keeps on happening. My sense of humor is perfectly fine, I just am not in the mood to wield it at the moment. I'm fairly level-headed. If I wasn't, I would have exploded by now.

Man, I'm so sorry to hear about that. Talk about a double whammy- huge expense and the loss of your favorite spot. We're still mopping up the mess of last week's abysmal week that leaves the brain throbbing with the exertion of calling out to the universe, "Are you fucking kidding me with this shit?" I hope you can work it out with the neighbors. I'd be upset too, but they do seem like the type to try and milk it for all it's worth. I was glad to see on FB about your insurance coverage. Thank goodness for that much, eh? I'm wishing you all the best for the crap storm to blow over & good times to come again.

Almost my exact words. I seriously shook my fist at the sky last night. Now I feel a little like Truman in the boat, you know?

I must have missed something; what happened last week? Not you too?! O_O

Good times better move their ass!

You didn't miss anything, I was just too sad and disgusted to vent. I lost one of my best old hens to start the week off, then like a moron gave my all time super-star best hen in the universe aspiration pneumonia while trying to medicate her. I've done it a million times and this is the one I eff up. On the amazingly good side, she came around after a night sounding like someone sucking the bottom of a cup with a straw. Then we discovered my brother's place was robbed of all the new windows he bought to redo the house, plus a bunch of tools and other stuff. Not just robbed either, but the house turned over, his garment bag with his good suit slashed open, drawers turned out, mattress flung across the room and worst of all, one of the urns with my dad's ashes flung across the room. Of course he has no insurance. Tens of thousands of dollars, but the most heart breaking was the urn. It didn't break, but it was so harsh. I'd like just five minutes alone with whoever did it. Just five. With my bare hands. And little though I may be, you know how pissed I am.

Anyway, I have to laugh when you mention Truman, I have had that exact image of him in the boat lately myself. I think I need to re-watch that movie. I guess the most important things were not lost, my dad's ashes and paintings, and Trixie is feeling better, so we're on the mend here, but what a week.

I'm hoping when Mr. Neighbor comes back things stay cool for you guys. It's not like you had any control over what happened, so upset as they may be, there's no point in starting trouble. Fingers crossed!

Oh man, that is so, so horrible. People can be such awful creatures. How totally violating. It's not just the money--well, but that is a huge part of it--it's the frigging nerve of some people. How can they be so heartless? Makes me want to punch them with FIRE.

I'm real sorry about your chickies, too. Glad your super-star pulled through. Don't beat yourself up - we all make mistakes. And she made it, after all.

I think I need a Truman icon! I have my "effing space" one that I like when things go wildly wrong, and on FB I have my RE4 "Futility" macro that I throw out there when it gets like this.

Hmm. Truman. Yeah, I need that icon.

:-O Geez, how much more?

Their and your homeowner's insurance companies should work out who is owed what. The paperwork will be a pain in the ass, and the neighbors may be a pain in the ass, but hopefully that can get settled.

The loss of your sanctuary = enormous suck. :-(

INORITE. Christ. Apparently homeowners does cover it, but it also doesn't preclude the neighbors from being a dick. Right now the lady is being super nice, but her husband is away and I have this suspicion that when he comes home, he's going to kick up a big fuss. I hope not.

My little summer oasis. :(
