Already blizzing.

December 19th and it is already blizzing out there. I went to work today (Saturday) and I sold lots and lots. MUST remember to enter my work log tomorrow and fax sheets since I will not be going in, as it will continue blizzing until tomorrow afternoon. I thought the store would either be hopping like mad or zombified today with no in-betweens. It was hopping, and I sold a ton.
I guess the only other really notable thing is that I've reworked my goddamn query a-frigging-gain because it was way too long and convoluted after all. Every time I think, “Yeah, this is it, this is exactly how it should be!” more people point out more flaws.
One person on this board I go to just got their first publishing deal after 36 rejections.
It kinda works like this: Most queries get a form rejection. The marginally better ones get a rejection with a note saying why it got rejected, for future reference. (“You have a chance, but not with me. Get better and try someone else.”) The next step is the partial request. (“This query's not bad but not good enough to look through your whole book. Give me a few chapters.”) More often than not, partials get rejected. (“Sorry, you obviously worked harder on your 300 word query than you did on your 99,000 word novel.”) Better than that, the full request. (“Outstanding! Let me see the whole book!”) But again, most often even the full manuscript gets rejected. (“The first chapter has obviously been polished to hell and back, but the remaining twenty chapters are a mess.”)
36 rejections over two years and this novelist posted to say, “Don't ever give up! Just keep working and reworking!”) Which I will, of course. But, god. 36 rejections over two years, and finally, a stroke of luck for all your hard work. How is that not daunting?
Speaking of a stroke of luck, jeez, I have to check my lottery tickets. Even if I did win, say, the megamillions (lulz,) it would still be my dream to get past those goddamn gates and get a three book contract. Then, I could just spend more time
Anyway.
So I did a goddamn retarded thing with that “face-pulsating mask” I bought a few days ago. I put it in my hair. I figured if it's good for your skin, it must be good for your hair, right? Not so much. Three days later and my hair still feels like molasses-covered straw. Note to self: clay + vinegar does not equal soft, silky hair, moron.
Tonight I got a CC email from Lao Shir, addressed also to Gold Dragon, Lady Chrysanthemum, Merry Laugh, and the Jedi Ronin about meeting up for breakfast on Wednesday. Well needless to say, that would be the berries for sure. I hope it works out, although it is the day after the Dragon's birthday, and also I think he might have to work. Still, it would be like old times. :)
Well, guess I'd better check those winning lottery tickets and claim my prize.
To anyone stuck in this white-out, be safe and stay warm.
NOTICE: I will be changing my Livejournal name soon. The links will all stay the same. I just want my LJ to be less googlable. Or really, the name I've used here to be less googlable. Unfortunately some very unsavory and nasty people have been having way too much fun for way too long with this name. So, f-list, communities, past entries, pics, and everything else will remain!
For those not on my f-list who are afraid they might lose track of me and still wish to follow, shoot me an email at kapunua at cheerful dot com. You don't even have to tell me who you are; I will give you the new name. Although it shouldn't be necessary, because the re-name token simply changes the name, not the links to the actual blog. ^_^
