Two interesting things happened to me today and they both involved messages of some sort. They came one right after the other.

The first is from a good friend of mine who moved way far away. We used to work at The Bad Place together. At The Bad Place, she had these lesions onher arm that she thought were just boils or something. I kept telling her, half serious and half joking, that she had MRSA. I was like, "You better get that checked out, MRSA Girl, and don't be rubbing it on me!"

She'd been ill for a really long time and her doctors prescribed her antibiotics up the wazoo for like two years because that was their answer to everything. I kept telling her I thought she had some kind of hormone imbalance but her doctors wouldn't check her for that. They just kept prescribing the ABs which ruined her immune system.

Eventually I talked her into going to an endocrinologist who found out she has poly-cystic ovarian syndrome and she was basically a hormone machine. But by then, her immune system was pretty much shot.

She wrote to me tonight saying, "Hey bitch, you were right, I have MRSA, now go and be a doctor!" ("Hey bitch" is just the way we greet each other. Like a pet name!)

I wrote back telling her that I think it's health-care related MRSA. We did have a dog at The Bad Place once that had MRSA and the owners never bothered to tell us. ANd of course Dr. Douche didn't really take any concerns seriously, so.

So that's no good.

Here's the other thing that happened. I got an email from the new principal to my old high school. Last night, I wrote him this long, involved email, asking if he could pass on a message to my 10th grade biology teacher, Mr. J. In it, I said that although Mr. J. will have read messages like this a thousand times by now, I had to tell him the story anyway.

This is what I told him:

I was an average student at best and really only excelled at English and
Music. The Sciences always intimidated me and I never did well in them
until 10th grade, when I was lucky enough to have Mr. J as a
teacher. He changed my entire outlook on science, and in fact he
instilled in me such a fascination with biology that it has never left
me. In college I naturally became an English major, which was very easy
for me, yet I continued to take electives in biology. I've always tried
to get my novels published (still trying!) but to pay the bills I worked
at an animal hospital as an assistant: the laboratory atmosphere and the
medicine did little to fulfill the need I had to learn more about
biology. I worked there for nine years in complacence.

Then last May I lost that job, entirely unfairly, and all in one day.
With no other skills aside from a BA in literature, and some lab skills,
I realized that my only option was to start over. The choice was fairly
easy to make. With my love of biology and medicine that came from Mr.
J., the only thing that felt right was to go back to school and
finally pursue it.

So at 36, I am enrolled in the ----- University,
where I'll be able to continue human biology and other health sciences.
Eventually I will be able to practice acupuncture and Oriental medicine.
Also I'll be getting a Master of Science degree, and if I choose to--and
I probably will--I can continue to study for a doctorate in medicine.

Etc.

Anyway, he just wrote me back to tell me that he will make sure to forward the email to him.

So that's kinda wow, right?

Ummm and also Resident Evil Degeneration is coming out Dec 27 instead of Jan 1 so that's a huge YAY also, though not anywhere near as momentous as either of those two items.
