So last night a good friend of mine who is a photographer (like for real, got a degree in photography and all) sent me an email. We go way back to high school, actually, on through college, we were even roommates in Seattle, where she lives to this day. Anyway, back in the day when she was doing shows with her work, I used to do a lot of art modeling for her. Keep in mind when I say "art modeling" I am drawing a HUGE, UNCROSSABLE line between that and fashion modeling. To be an art model, you don't have to be anorexic, symmetrical and void of personality. You just have to be interesting to the artist. And even though her chosen theme was sort of medieval stuff, we weren't all "OMGz let's pretend we're FAIRIES!" This was her work, and our friends and I were there to help her out. It was also loads of fun.

Well over the years a lot of stuff happened in her life that demanded her attention and she kind of wandered away from her photography projects. I always thought she had a severe creative block that lasted a long time and I always wished she'd someday go back to it. So then last night I get this email from her asking if I could please fly out to Seattle to do this project with her. What she's got in mind is a project based on Yeats's "Stolen Child". I'm so glad she's getting back into this stuff again!

But here's the hilarious part: she says, "You are *the* one to be the fairy!" And she adds, "The poem is gorgeous, especially when sung by Loreena McKinnet!" BWAHA! Which only put me in mind of one particular flake, and I think you know who that is. Okay, let me clear up that this friend of mine is not one of these "OMGz LOREENA MCKINNET I AM TEH FAE!!!111" kind of people. And she's not on LJ so she has no idea who this particular flake even is. I just thought it was so funny that she brought up those two ideas--fairies and this one singer (whom I've never heard)--in the same email.

And sadly, there's no way I could be flying out to Seattle these days anyway; not with all this stuff that's going on and the fact that I have negative money. But it made me miss those days and it inspired me to dig out those old photos and scan them. Holy crap, the stuff I found! And uploaded. And so here we are with a huge pic spam. Fun from the past!

Yup, this was me as the Lily Maid of Astolat.

Actually I took this one of Jeremy while we were dorking around one day. This was 99 or so.

And Morgan, who had the unfortunate role of Werther, as in "The Sorrows Of Young"...

Well, there was a nice little trip into my photographic past. Now it sucks that I have to write to my friend and tell her there's no way--now at least--that I could get out there to do this kind of thing again. I miss it, though.

I haven't seen the photos yet -- my Treo is a spiffy phone and browser, but it works at the speed of slightly better than dialup.

Still, you need to listen to Lorena McKennitt. There is a handful of musicians that I suspect are fae because of their music, and she heads the list. I'll post some via yousendit later, but for now, trust me on this: she is everything that the aforementioned flake wishes she was.

No kidding? I've been looking for some good, new, mellow music to groove to, but she seems a little icky to me because of said flake. If you rec her, though, she's got to be good. :)

Yousendit is giving me shit, so the music may have to wait. I'm uploading as we speak, but it may take a while. But I'll say this about it -- there is a magic to it, and said flake should not be allowed to claim that magic all for herself.

Since I'm now at home, and can see the pictures... I have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] minrho -- you are far more gorgeous than you realize. I think she and I might need to set up an aversion therapy course for you -- each time you speak ill of your looks, one of us bops you on the head with a newspaper or something. Because seriously? I've only seen one bad photo of you, and with that one, you were so close to the camera that the curvature of the lens was distorting your face. In every other photo of you, you've looked damned good.

(Also, having seen Jeremy's pics, it occurs to me that if they actually put Bill Weasley in the next Harry Potter movie, he'd give me serious competition for the role. He photographs much better than I do.)

Okay, it seems that Firefox doesn't like uploading to Yousendit, for some reason, but IE does it just fine. Grrr....

All Souls Night
The Lady of Shallot
The Old Ways

As much as I love it, I must add that I would not have gotten into this five or ten years ago -- I had to mature into it.

I've had a listen to all of those, and I'm kind of surprised. "All Souls Night" didn't do anything for me, but I will admit that "The Lady Of Shallot" gave me a shiver. She does have a lovely voice. Thank you for sharing those. ^_^

I liked "All Souls Night" much better than "The Lady of Shallot," but something told me to give you "The Lady of Shallot" anyway. Apparently for good reason.

Glad you like!

Heh, negative reinforcement. I think that shocks might work better. ;) Keep in mind, though, that those pictures were taken mostly over ten years ago. It's funny, I know the photo that you're talking about, and weirdly enough, I actually like that one because I think it's honest.

Of course you're not going to see the bad pictures. I delete them and kill anyone who's seen them. ;D

As for Jeremy, these days he's got his head totally shaved and doesn't often allow me to take pictures of him.

You are stunning. Stunning. It amazes me each and every time you claim otherwise.

Thanks very much. Oh dude, but that was years ago, before all my cool costumes were packed up and shoved in the shed. :) Good thing is that I could still fit into them, though. Heh.

How's Marylin?

I am SO adding this entry to my LJ memories - artists need visual reference/inspiration. ;) It's a pity though you can't do this again because of the cost of travel - though actually, a thought occurs to me right now.

Check out www.wickedtalent.com. You would fit in there as an art photography model and (IMO) would easily get paying gigs from photographers in your area doing the same kinda work. If you are interested, anyway. :)

Thanks a huge bunch! I know we don't actually write often, but I always do read your entries, and I still very much admire your art. Your opinion means a lot to me.

I'll have a look at that website, too. I can't DO art but I'm a huge fan of it and I love to help any way I can. (Could use some extra $$, too. :D )
