You know, I left pirategasm because of all the real person fic going on there. Lately I've checked back to see if the release of the DVD had sparked some good, old fashioned POTC fanfic, and I find this thread: http://www.livejournal.com/community/pirategasm/364605.html

Interesting thread about Jack's various scars, to be sure. On the other hand, I see a few people sort of wistfully going, "torture. Got to be torture. Sounds like torture to me. (Please let it be torture.)" Okay, a bit more subtle than that. But it seems that bandgeek thinks, "Hmm ... torture is sexy."

While I vomit all over my nice silky PJ pants.

Dude, I can get on board with h/c. Oh, bet on it. But torture is ugly, gratuitous torture makes me gag, and torture treated blithely in stories? Bring on that squick.

Is it just me, or does the phrase "torture is sexy" disturb anyone else?

(Of course, seeing "absurd" spelled "ubsurd" disturbs me, too, but that's just one of my things.)

hrm... Torture can be gratifying, yes. When the characters deserve it. Maybe sexy, but not because of the actual torture itself.

I find it squicking, that fangirls are salivating, going "torture. Got to be torture. Sounds like torture to me. (Please let it be torture.)" Eww.

I'm still not wild about reading the graphic details of it....

I think that a character's reactions to situations can make the character sexy, definitely. Some people think that a character whimpering and crying in reaction to certain things is sexy. I just happen to be the opposite. Personal preference.

But, having read the way some writers have tortured Jack, or Will, or really any character in the past in torturefics, it seems like they think the actual act of torture is sexy, and the way that thread ws going on there, that's what it sounded like to me.

"torture. Got to be torture. Sounds like torture to me. (Please let it be torture.)"

To be fair, no one used exactly those words. That was just the vibe I got.

And it's Jack. Who the hell would want to see Jack tortured? He's just about the most fun, trippiest, freespirited character ever. Like I said on potc_canon_fic, it's hard to hurt Jack and keep him in character. Torture? Eeesh.

Ah well. Time for work. Urrgh! Why can't today be Saturday!
