More fun from ~Winter Rose!!111~
Aug. 27th, 2006 03:26 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Superfun! Since Rose has responded to my allegations about her in a vague way, and her dithering, silly husband has outright said that I made this stuff up about her, I thought I should, you know QFT where applicable.
Let's see, what did I say in that last post? That Rose made a mockery of Native Americans by claiming to be descended from a Cherokee Princess. Hey, what's this? And yep, I posted about it on the NDN comm. Lots of laughs there.
That Rose said she thought it would be "romantic" to get tuberculosis. Why, look! And in case she deletes it, this was her response to the question "Top five diseases you would most like to contract (given that you could get better)":
2. Consumption {So Romantic!} The actual reply is right here.
That she always goes on about her hair color, first saying that it's natural and then later saying that she uses Clairol, which is tested on animals, and that I called her on it once? Sadly, she has deleted that stuff. You know, people saying things in her LJ that aren't along the lines of "OMG you are so FAE!!!!1111" never goes over well.
That she's greedy, grasping, vain, stupid and all the rest, well, those are just opinions. As some very smart person posted in GAFF, "Rose, Rose, this isn't sweet and it's synergy -- this is trying to get a free ride. Sorry. It's nice that you has people who are generous enough to give you money, but you are not entitled to a free honeymoon more than anyone else.
Aren't true princesses supposed to have...dignity?
I do wonder if she realizes that for every sugar-free double shot vanilla strawberry caramel fudge iced tea mocha frappuccino she cuts out of her budget, that at least four less people would have to give her money."
As for the real issue: Do the charity meme. Donate!
ETA: I want to thank all of you who responded, in email, comments, or fora, for your support and agreement. But more than that, thanks to all of you who have been inspired to donate to charity--or in many cases, to donate more than you usually would have. Rose started this whole thing with her ridiculousness and greed. I get mad about stuff like that, so I want to thank all of you for helping me turn it into something helpful to others. ^_^
ETA Tristan proposes a compromise. While I still don't hold with the idea of begging being any kind of dignified, anything that will get $2500 to charity is a good thing. Making a difference is a good thing. OTOH, it also makes one wonder: If they don't have the money to go to Ireland and have to go a-begging for it, then where is the money for charity going to come from? Or will it be like a slow trickle ... like over ten years or so? And in the meantime, they'll just light some candles and hope that other people's problems will go away?
Huh, and Rose is still deleting my comments, which actually had very little to do with her. Hmm.

Date: 2006-08-27 07:46 pm (UTC)To answer your question, I found out about Rose through the Godawful Websites forum at GAFF. That's what people do there, we mock things that are godawful. Yep, and many of us do make fun of other people who are greedy, stupid, vain, etc. In all the time I've been there, though, there have been only very few people who just simply keep on keeping on with their godawfulness. Rose fits that bill. Just when you think she can't get any lower, she raises herself to her full height and strides right under the belly of a snake. This latest "experiment" of hers just proves it.

Date: 2006-08-27 07:54 pm (UTC)I personally do like Rose very much and I while she seems... fantastically whimsical, ie wishing for fantasy, I don't see her as a bad person or someone who seems dangerous; I applaud her for her desires and fantasies. However, I do see your viewpoint as well. That's all I'm gonna say.
I won't be checking your journal anymore, but I just needed clarification on this.

Date: 2006-08-27 07:47 pm (UTC)Remember though, that this is the internet. Everything put on the internet is rightly subjected to mocking. Even if Rose was just being silly and ridiculous in her own corner, people would have a right to call her on it.

Date: 2006-08-27 09:30 pm (UTC)I'm sorry if you feel your heritage has been mocked, and that she doesn't pay attention to enough of what's going on around her. I'm sorry you don't like that she treats herself to something tasty, if expensive, now and then. Yes, she has a unique worldview that doesn't necessarily make sense to the rest of the internet. Yes, sometimes she is quite silly. "Vain" is debatable considering that not enough women know how to call themselves beautiful for what they are. Would you rather she turn anorexic and start hating her looks?
She's one girl asking for one trip to what she considers her homeland, mostly as a gift to the one man she loves most in the world. What's it to you if she asks for our pocket change? I give whatever I've got in my purse to whatever charity I walk past. Right now, I'm donating because I know what it's like to miss my homeland, and I happen to be rolling in dough (for a second-year college student -- go, financial aid). Since I had $10 yesterday for a hat, I sure do have $20 to send a friend to Ireland. I don't expect strangers to donate anything -- at most, $5. At most.
If she says her health care costs are high, then I believe her, because health care in this country in general is priced far above what us common mucks can afford. See also f_w, Cancerwank, etc. I've had needs I simply couldn't take care of because my insurance wasn't up to it and I didn't have the money for out-of-pocket. She has a lot of health issues, and I'm surprised she hasn't asked us for help in that arena yet.
That's greed, by the way. Not one girl wishing for one trip for one special occasion. The entire establishment of this country, that's what greed is. The fact that significant chunks of the population don't make a living wage, that's greed.
I am going to link to each of the charities you suggested below, even the "controversial" one -- I get that grindy feeling in my teeth whenever I read about the price of AIDS meds. Thank you for reminding us that there is, in fact, a big fat starving world out there.
In peace,
C.

Date: 2006-08-27 10:06 pm (UTC)And for the record, I don't care what Rose does with her money. But you have to admit, "OMGz I got such prezzies and (fill in the blank of whatever 5 dollar coffe item) four times this week!" in one breath and then "WAAAHHH I am so poor send me to Ireland pls!" in the next is just, well... I have actually used all my best adjectives on this.
Everyone has health care costs that are high. I can name three people right off the bat who are suffering from chronic diseases, and one of whom has that godawful multiple myeloma and is in the hospital as we speak. All of those people would love a "free ride", I'm sure, to the country of their choice.
Actually, scratch that. I don't know anyone who would accept a free ride, much less beg for one. I know a whole different class of people.
Thank you, though, for linking to those charities. They are my personal favorite ones, along with one or two that I didn't mention (a few animal rights ones) that I felt would just be unpopular.

Date: 2006-08-27 10:15 pm (UTC)The charities are linked in my sidebar. I will be pointing people to that sidebar this evening, as well as collecting buttons and links for my website proper. I'm not the Heidi of this equation; I am equally willing to pimp for total strangers as friends. ^_^

Date: 2006-08-28 02:36 am (UTC)I'm checking out charities, and I'll link them in a post in my LiveJournal once I get them picked. I will probably mostly focus on religious charities, any Catholic/Christian ones I can pick out. It may not be protecting wildlife or saving the rainforest, but the missionaries who travel to other countries have a great mission to evangelize, and monies also go to helping people get a foothold to make their own money, despite living in very poor communities and conditions. I might also try and link some health-related charities; the American Cancer Society would be a big one, as I had an aunt who died of breast cancer at the beginning of my first year of high school. She was a wonderful woman, and I would love to support the ACS in her memory.
Again, this was a very inspired idea, Tilly. Best of luck to you in supporting your favorite charities

Date: 2006-08-28 02:54 am (UTC)Not really with you on the missionaries--IMO they've done nothing but ruin cultures, and people should be left alone to their own cultures and not have religion forced down their throats--but way to go on the cancer society. I lost an aunt to breast cancer as well.

Date: 2006-08-28 03:11 am (UTC)I also want to add to the American Cancer Society by putting in the American Red Cross as well. I've actually even donated blood to them whenever my college campus has had blood drives. I haven't donated again yet, though I had several opportunities over the summer. They came and went because usually I had other obligations, like family stuff and work. I think tomorrow I'll do some more charity nagivation and see what I come up with, then I'll post the meme in my journal. *thumbs up*
P.S. I wasn't surprised as well that she deleted my comment, because the ones that are there are from people who donated, want to/will donate, or those who can't but they're offering hope and prayers for her and Tristan.
It shouldn't be too hard for you to win the battle against Rose's hubby.

Date: 2006-08-28 03:34 am (UTC)Absolutely. I mourn the loss of the old gods in these cultures, as they were more a part of said cultures than the dance etc. But we disagree, and there's no need to be going in circles.

Excellent. There's nothing better than when something good comes of something bad. Err, I guess except for when something good comes of something already good. ;)

Well, he just keeps repeating the same stuff and not really saying much of anything. It's odd, because he seemed very level at first, but now I see that he's just lost and mixed up, whereas I think that Rose knows what she's up to.

Date: 2006-08-28 03:33 am (UTC)I would beg for money only if it were a question of life and death. I would stop buying books (hel-lo library!) and expensive fish and cheese. I would eat Ramen noodles and ketchup packets for a month after paying for my cat's osteoctomy (two years ago). I would NOT go to Disney and chirp about it one month and then ask people to send me to Europe the next. Maybe that's just me... and pretty much everyone I know IRL. That is exactly why I think begger and beggee are worth making fun of.
This is not a question of life and death. It's whim. If it weren't a whim, Rose would have thought it out and saved up for it at the backs of a hundred Starbucks, sparklies and book retailers.

Date: 2006-08-28 05:11 am (UTC)Why are you buying CDs and books and sparklies and posting about it, but turning around and saying, "Waaahhhh...I have no money and I want to go to Ireland!!!" Cut the crap buying if you really want to go, and save your money!
People aren't jealous of Rose. There's no reason. She hasn't got anything more or less better than anyone else. They're just baffled by her methods and her need to talk about material objects. I wonder if she was in someone else's shoes and read her own words, would she feel differently? Would she understand that she comes across greater than thou art and as if everything she does and has is ten times better than what the next person has? That she comes across as NEEDING to be better?
And the Cassandra Claire comment? Why does a collective mind seem to think that people were OK with that but not Rose's plea for a trip? I'm sorry, I don't donate to idiots, period. I wouldn't have donated to Claire, and I bet several people were just as disgusted and didn't donate either. So therefore, I think plenty of people are not hypocritical when it comes to disagreeing with Rose's methods here. But whatever. Logic doesn't really hold with Rose's group, apparently.
As for the charities, I donate here: http://www.meezer.com/

Date: 2006-08-28 02:21 pm (UTC)I actually answered those comments. Also the one about "How come people supported taht fanfic writer who asked for money?!" to point up my LJ entry where I mocked that, too. Guess what? Deleted. Rose wants to think--and wants others to think--that she's the only person I call out when they do something greedy or hateful.
Logic doesn't really hold with Rose's group, apparently.
WHen you've got people circle-jerking all over you, I guess "logic" has to go and hide its face for a while.

Date: 2006-08-28 09:18 am (UTC)If I DID have some money, however, I'd be donating to probably the Red Cross (they keep sending me messages ever since I donated $20 last year for the Katrina fund), but actually the cause I'm most interested in right now is research to battle Parkinson's Disease. After all, that's what my dad died of last October, and it was doubly upsetting because they say Parkinson's is something you die WITH, not FROM. Well, my dad died from it. And it was not an easy time for him or for our family, and I would like to see some real progress made on research and treatment of this disease.
Stem cell research kinda would have helped that...stupid president. But that's another topic and I won't start ranting about it here.

Date: 2006-08-28 02:28 pm (UTC)Well, if you had read carefully, you'd see all the people who are donating even more to charities now. This turned out to be a really incredible thing. Two people's greed turned inside out and made into something nice.
It would do your own heart and soul more good to discard this aggravation, let go of this agitation, instead of poisoning your own life with what may not yet be but surely is fast growing into an obsession.
Actually, it's quite the opposite. Everyone has to blow off steam now and then. Over at GAFF, we find the most godawful people, and just go crazy mocking them. You'd be surprised at how cathartic that is. ^_^
You're wounding your own soul with this, and you won't heal if you keep picking, don't you know that?
Awwww, I'm touched that you're so concerned for my soul. *snicker*

Date: 2006-08-29 10:26 pm (UTC)Sorry if any of that was offensive, as that's not how I intended it to come across. My main point is that there are MANY, MANY people who will delete comments from people when a large majority of them are just insulting with very little discussion factor, and I'm just curious if you are that adamant about ALL of your opinions, or merely when you're fighting with Rose.
no subject
Date: 2006-08-29 11:01 pm (UTC)That's a fair question. If you read back, you'll see that I listed a few reasons why I read Rose's journal, the primary being for laughs. Secondly, her idiocy makes me feel better about myself. We all do stupid and selfish things sometimes, and I certainly fill my quota. Sometimes it's good to be able to say, "At least I'm not as bad as that person." But I also did make a point of saying that once in a while she will do something so appalling that it actually gets me angry.
I know I'm not going to change anyone's opinion, but rarely do I let pass the opportunity to bitchslap certain people. ;)
My main point is that there are MANY, MANY people who will delete comments from people when a large majority of them are just insulting with very little discussion factor, and I'm just curious if you are that adamant about ALL of your opinions, or merely when you're fighting with Rose.</i? I have strong opinions on everything, pretty much, and in some cases I just can't see the "let's disagree civilly," when something is going on that I think is entirely wrong, oppressive etc, or crazy like whoa. Everyone has hot buttons. Sexism, racism, homophobia, etc. Hypocrisy is another one of mine, and Rose could fill the Pacific with hers.

Date: 2006-08-29 11:44 pm (UTC)While you may see Rose as stupid, weak, frivolous, hopelessly-behind-the-times, etc., I DO know that when she is presented with a netural, intelligent, non-offensive arguement she will listen to it and try to respond in an equally neutral, intelligent, and non-offensive manner. It just seems (in my opinion, of course) that the comments you've made haven't been aimed at helping charities or trying to solidly discredit Rose's view, but rather it seems like her asking for honeymoon money was an excuse for you to pounce on her because you disagree with her personality. While you are entitled to your own views and opinions, I guess what I don't understand is why you would go out of your way to attack Rose, instead of making a direct and legitimate argument against whatever it is that you disagree with.

Date: 2006-08-30 12:05 am (UTC)Nah, it's good to blow off steam at the free-range rude. Hannibal Lecter ate them. I just point out their idiocy. ;)

I've actually tried that on numerous occasions, especially the first few times I had any sort of contact with her. Guess what? She deleted those comments. She always has, because she knows I come over from GAFF.
On the other hand, that's actually fine with me. I prefer it when I can see straight through someone. You can sugar a turd all you want, but when you squeeze it, it still stinks.
