Babble and junk

The weather seems to go from being effing frigid at goddamn 30 degrees, to sunny and 50-ish, within a few hours. I'm sick of it! It's time for meffing Spring to get the hell over here.

So! I completed most of my finals and I have two biggies left: A&P and Fundamentals on Saturday. A&P is 100 questions comulative and I need to finish my labs, too. Instead of studying and accomplishing this, I've been writing a damn essay about Final Fantasy VII and doing this stupid, utterly fanpeeing 20 minute video to sum up the plot.

"The phosphourous heads of the lipid bi-layer of the cell-wall are...?"

Umm, Cetra?

In other forms of personal stupidity, I have had this urge at around 10 PM every night to turn on the TV no matter what is on, and just find something to watch. I ended up watching Rescue Me, which I watched a few times when it first came out, liked it, then promptly forgot about it. I've always had such a damn crush on Denis Leary so I was like, "Let me see if he's still hot," and for the love of floppy strawberry blond hair, he still is.



Homboy definitely gets hotter as he gets older. WTF is that about? Then last night I had a stupidly inappropriate dream about him and now I feel like watching that TV show again. I love hate it when that happens!

I went jogging with Haku yesterday, and with Sano today. I really need to get Haku back in shape. He seems so deficient since his surgery and he still yipes when he overdoes it. He hasn't done his laps in freaking months and I miss it. Sano also put on about five pounds over the winter, and goodness knows that I did, too. >_< I quite like jogging, even though the cold air burns my lungs and makes them ache. In TCM wind is very bad for you, it is the king of pathogens, and other pathogens are borne on it. (I guess that's actually true, too. Oh, and slightly tangentially, here's another cool thing about TCM: Seizures in TCM are usually caused by the wind pathogen stemming from the liver. "Wind" because it's like a storm blowing around in your head. I just think it's odd that it comes from the liver, because when a dog has a seizure disorder the liver is the first place they look. Interesting.)

This winter I've been eating everything in my path like a black hole; I'm surprised I haven't swallowed light and gravity. So I've been trying to cut back at least marginally. I don't know, maybe it's stress. Some people can't eat when things get rough. I do nothing but eat, not only for comfort, but for some weird kind of affirmation. "Yup, I'm still here: look, I even require lots of fuel!"

At least tonight I have Kung Fu as well. We're doing lots of kicks in basics, and forms in blackbelt class.

Man! I have one more day of tests and then I have two weeks off. Hurray!

And Haku just had another seizure. I mean I knew he probably would, and they told me that the therapeutic levels of the PB would take a few weeks to build up, but it's still so hard to watch and deal with. >_< Now he's all wandery and whiny and sad, making me sad and frustrated too.

His blood tests, incidentally, all came back yesterday and no one can find a thing wrong with him, meaning it's idiopathic or primary epilepsy.

I had just hoped to lower his dose of PB because it knocks him out, and he had been doing so well.

Drat it all.

FFVII HUGE essay thingie thing HOLY JESUS THIS IS LONG.

Okay, so lookit: if you're one of these "zzzOMGS MCR doing the theme song from Final Fantaseee!!111" then please don't bother. I try not to be all "I was here first" or whatever, and if you're discovering FFVII for the first time, hey, that's great! But, discover Final Fantasy VII. Not just Advent Children because some LA raaaawkstah did a song that bumped the original ending song. >_<

I realize that the original game is very hard to come by these days, and it doesn't play on PS3 (WTF?) but there has got to be a way to download it and still play it on your PC or something, right? Right? Don't be a Compilation whore. If you're going to be a fan of the story, play the damn original.

If you're a FFVII geek and you want to show Advent Children to your friends, but you have freaking no clue how to sum up the entire plot and its subplots without skipping this and going back to that and then changing so and so, then maybe something like this can help you keep track. I know this because I have attempted to show AC to friends and myself gotten completely lost trying to explain the plot. Or maybe you want to write a fic and you want a reminder or two of what happened when.

But really I just wrote it because I wanted to. :)

When Square-Soft released FFVII back in late 1997, they probably didn't have any idea exactly what they were getting into. They wanted the newest installment of Final Fantasy to be popular and successful, of course, but I doubt they set out to make a masterpiece. Which, I think, is exactly why it is a masterpiece; a spiritual cyberpunk tragedy told in the medium of an RPG.

The story takes place on a planet known as, well, "The Planet." Its themes are environmental; science vs. nature; the tenuous and mutable nature of reality and how belief affects it; deceit and self-deceit; preservation and sacrifice; and the hazy areas between "good guys" and "bad guys."

Truth is an illusion.

Battles are fought not only with weapons and skill, but with Materia, a condensed form of Mako with specific powers. Mako comes from the Lifestream: a green, glowing, physical construct which surrounds and permeates the Planet; a kind of Planetery Qi. There are hypotheses that Mako and Lifestream are made up of human consciousness that has left the Planet, or a "world soul," or things like that.

Some Materia has the ability to summon creatures of great destruction in order to fight enemies.

The Planet is in jeopardy. The people are ruled by the greedy ShinRa corporation. ShinRa uses Mako reactors to suck up the Mako from the Planet to fuel the world; and the Planet is beginning to run dry. President ShinRa is at the head of the mega-corporation, and seems to be the the de facto president of the entire world.

BUT!! Advent Children is a whole different creature. It is gorgeously rendered with an awesome soundtrack, it's total eye-candy and it's a really fun ride if you let it be one. I feel free to enjoy it without reservation, because the original game is still there to play, unchanged. And because Squenix dedicated it to the fanpoodles. ;D

Should Square Enix ever decide to remake FFVII, I'm sure they will butcher it by leaving out all the best parts: Wall Market, the Wutai arc, all the random and quirky dumb little things you could do that made the game what it was. But I would still totally buy that bitch and I would play the crap out of it. Nothing can take away the original. :)
