So I woke up today to the first real snow of the season. It's snowed twice already, but it didn't stick until last night, so this actually counts as the first snow. We got about two inches. I let the dogs out and watched Haku discover this amazing and confusing white stuff. I took a video of him sniffing it and trying to eat it. I wish I'd had the camera when he first went outside, because for a minute he just looked all around with his eyes all big, and seemed afraid to step on it. Once he realized that it wasn't going to do anything to him, he started playing with it, rolling it with his nose and digging in it. I think by now the novelty has worn off. Trisky ran through it for about a minute, but she quickly remembered how much she hated it and asked to go inside.
Then I got a bit more holiday shopping done. At least I got some gifts for Trish and Kim. Wednesday is our private holiday party at Kim's house. We're going to cook dinner and drink and talk all day. I wish we had done exactly that every year since we met, instead of only the last Christmas we'll all have together.
And then I got my tree. I listened to The Beatles as I went to get it, of course, because that's just what I always do when I get my tree. I picked out a really nice one that is just the right height and width, and it fits perfectly in my living room. Unfortunately, I realized as soon as I put it up that it's already completely dead and dry. Usually my tree doesn't last very long because it's really hot in my house, but this one is already on its way out. Bother!
Anyway, ( my three dogs by my tree: )
Oh, also I downloaded the video for My Humps. A few weeks ago when Kim came over, she started talking about this really truly awful song she had heard, and the video, which was worse! There was this girl, and in the song she was talking about... And before she even finished the thought, I knew what song it was going to be and I started laughing. Okay, now if you think that I champion a lot of causes, you should meet Kim. She is completely driven. And one of her pet issues is the stereotyping of women--she especially hates it when women perpetuate those stereotypes. So this song and video completely offended her. Now, when I first heard the song on the radio, I thought it was the most ridiculous piece of music I'd ever heard. Actually, I still find it ridiculous, but it never fails to make me giggle, and I actually quite like to sing along with it. I played it for my Mom a few weeks ago when we were driving into East Hampton to drop Meghan off, and my Mom was cracking up over it. Actually, so was Meghan. So anyway, Kim was completely flabbergasted by the video, so I had to see what the fuss was all about. Actually, I found it sort of cute and funny. I've never actually seen the Black Eyed Peas before. Say, did you know that one of those guys is completely hot? Wow.
Tomorrow I hope to have time to finish my ornament gifts for Green Cloud. I bought a bunch of small glass balls today, and I only hope that I have enough. Wait, why am I doing this again?
And then I have to clean the bathroom and tub, and maybe I can have a nice, long bath tomorrow night. I think I'll take Leonard Cohen with me. I'll bet he goes well with baths.
Okay, it's time for my favorite meme again: the twenty song shuffle lyric meme. Open your music playing program and hit shuffle. Take the first twenty songs listed and post a line of lyrics from each of them. Try not to have the song's title in the lyrics. Everyone else must guess the song and / or artist. Googling is cheating. Everyone who plays is tagged. I apologize for the non-English ones.
1 Last fire will rise behind those eyes, black house will walk, blind boys don't lie....
2 For the tree of life is growing where the spirit never dies, and the bright light of salvation up in dark and empty skies. When the cities are on fire with the burning flesh of men, just remember that...
3 Who can say where the road goes, where the day goes...
4 Post crucifixtion babe, post crucifixtion babe, and all undone...
5 I'm gonna tell Aunt Mary 'bout Uncle John, he said he had the misery but he got a lot of fun, oh baby...
6 Qua resurget ex favilla, judicandus homo reus...
7 Fly, watch out, I'm going wild, but I dig your style; I'm just a child, but I like drinking those cigarettes...
8 Only thing I'd ever ask of you, gotta promise not to stop when I say when...
9 But I'm a million different people from one day to the next, I can't change my mold...
10 And draw us near, and bind us tight, all your children here, in their rags of light, in our rags of light, all dressed to kill... (Note: this song is my new favorite song to cry to.)
11 You say I took the name in vain, I don't even know the name, but if I did, well really, what's it to you?
12 Guardi le stelle, che tremano d'amore e di speranza...
13 Oh, under those white streetlights, there is a little chance they may see...
14 Put away that gun, and this part is simple: try to recognize what is in your mind...
15 This bridge was written to make you feel smittener with my sad picture of girl getting bitterer, can you extract me from my plastic fantasy, I didn't think so, but I'm still convincable...
16 In the pines, in the pines, where the sun don't even shine, I will shiver the whole night through... (Ooooh, shivers...)
17 I could be your baby, you could be my honey, let's spend time, not money, mix your milk with my coco puffs, milky milky coco... ^_^
18 Hate if you want to hate, if it keeps you safe, if it makes you brave... (One of my favorite lyrics ever, that one.)
19 Ke ki'i mai new Hawai'i ia'u, i ke kaula waimaka nui...
20 I'll read to you, here, save your eyes; you'll need them, your boat is at sea, your anchor is up, you've been swept away, and the greatest of teachers won't hesitate to leave you there by yourself, chained to fate...
