It's so hot and still right now.
Last night, Kim came over for pizza, chat and movies. Tricia is on vacation in PA with her family, and last night her husband had gone out, so she couldn't make it. Anyway, Kim and I watched this movie "The 13th Warrior", which I found kind of silly. Why are the Celts always the bad guys? I'll bet the hardcore pagans were pretty insulted by the movie's use of the Goddess figure, too. Actually, I found it pretty insulting, in a way. Kim didn't know that was the Goddess figure they were using there to symbolize TEH EVOL. An odd movie all around.
Also, we talked a lot about Star Wars, and after I showed her what Lucas did in the end of the re-release of ROTJ, replacing the original Anakin with the brand new, shiny pretty one, she refused to ever watch ROTS. She didn't scream like I did, but boy was she pissed. Anyway, then she stayed until around 1 AM and we just talked the entire night and ate Andes candies. (When I was 12, I had a crush on the bass guitarist from the band Heart, and his name was Mark Andes, so I used to always giggle over those candies when I was a kid.) If everyone honestly had friends like I have, there'd be less crime and anger and other general nastiness.
Today is my day off, and also the day that Kim and her husband Rick came by to open up the pool. (Her husband Rick is The Pool Guy.) So we did that, hung out, and I also got 14 of my starlings outside into the aviary (the 15th is still way too young.) Now, indoors I just have fledgling starlie who still needs a name, Jonathan the sparrow, and song sparrow Ewan (who I think is a girl, since she was trying to feed Jonathan last night. Although today all she did was kick him.) Once everything was done, Kim and Rick sneaked out without getting paid! I'll get them for that, the sneaks. ;D If I have to shove money in her pocket or send cash through the mail.
And now, it's just hot. Only about two weeks ago I couldn't believe how cold it was. May was more like early October. This week, the temperature soared. The plants are all confused. Actually, everything's strange this season. I've been overrun with starlings, but haven't had a single baby robin, and usually I've got tons of robbies by now. The other weird thing is all the inch worms. I thought I was the only one who noticed that the inchworms were everywhere and on everything, but bossman Rob mentioned it to me the other day, too. Hmm, no robins, too many worms...? Very strange. I read Dirk Gently. I know when something's amiss.
Just a few minutes ago it hit 97 in Pendragon's sunroom; I had to open every window and door in the house and put the fan on him. 97's actually not so bad for an iguana, but really anything above that I think is dangerous. Now it's about 94, good digesting temp for him. And he's basking in the unfiltered sunlight. That green man has really got the life sometimes. ^_^ (And, knock on wood....)
I have Kung Fu tonight, so I'm drinking so much water I could burst, because something tells me that Kung Fu + heavy black pants + self defense/bags and fitness week - air conditioning = dehydration. Yes, there's no air conditioning there, and the room is tiny, enclosed, full of mirrors and glass, and loaded with people. OMG HOTNESS, not in the Ewan McGregor kind of way, either.
I have to work tomorrow (losing that extra 15 minutes of sleep because I have birds in the aviary now, getting up with the sun when it's already a thousand degrees and putting on long scrub pants,) but tonight after Kung Fu and cleaning Pendragon's cage and bedding down the aviary and feeding the birds and taking a shower, I'm going to sit down with some strawberries and chocolate soy, watch Whose Line, then look at some more Star Wars documentaries on some DVDs. I feel downright decadent.
