Tonight at Kung Fu, Lao Shir is out on vacation, so Sifu Gus taught the class. Very, very interesting and intense. We did knife disarming and basically what I called "killing 101." In one instance he demonstrated to me how to block a lunge with a knife (I was the attacker.) He's shorter than I am, but when he blocked my arm, it felt like I got hit with a brick. And then when he grabbed my arm, I thought he was going to snap it. I'm all bruised. It was so completely awesome. We also discussed the law and just how far (and under what circumstance) you're allowed to defend yourself, and when you cross the line and become the attacker, in other words, when to quit. Totally intense. (Although, our "knives" were actually pointed sticks, so all I could think of was the Monty Python self defense sketch about being attacked by people wielding fruit, and Eric Idle repeatedly asking what to do if you were attacked by someone with a pointed stick. Heee.)

On the Hula front, tonight I got an email from my beautiful friend Kamai, regarding a situation I'd emailed her about a few weeks ago. And what she had to say to me was so wise and lovely that I got all emotional. She said she'd pass my email onto Kawehi, too. And she's just so full of aloha and sweetness to me, Kawehi as well, I can hardly wait another few months to see them again. ^_^ And Auntie Kau'i, also. My Mom and Dad saw Auntie Kau'i only a few weeks ago; they are so lucky.

That's my mana'o for tonight. :D
