Random thoughts on Last Order, written as I was watching it.



Last Order = The Awesomeness of Zack.

Pregame Cloud. A few days I think before Tifa finds him at the train station.

Tseng = Zeng ... = TEH BAD OMG!!!!11

The torching of Nibelheim is gorgeous here.

Zack, doing Matrix bullet dodges! Heee! Zack must be completely TEH AWESOME if he can still do all of this after five years in a tank.

"Sephiroth... Soldier... ShinRa... Mako Reactors... I HATE THEM ALL!" W00t for canon dialogue!

The picture! The famous Zack, Tifa, Sephiroth picture that pretty much broke Cloud's illusion! Squee.

How completely awesome to finally see Sephiroth's reaction to Cloud sneaking up behind him and kebobbing him on the Buster Sword.

Holy crap, Sephiroth didn't stab Cloud through the shoulder, he stabbed him through the chest. TWICE! and Cloud still lived! This is so much cooler than I thought it would be! GAH! Cloud pulls himself forward on the sword, gross! But so damned cool.

For those who didn't play FFVII, in the game it was nowhere near this intense, well, obviously, but not as drawn out or brutal either.

Oh, but hold up, that's wrong. This has Sephiroth jumping into the Lifestream. Cloud actually threw him into it in the game.

HOJO! THe real villain, Hojo, collecting his specemins!

Huh? Tseng = not so bad maybe?

WTF WTF?! They don't actually SHOW what happened? Oh, disappointment! What about the completely brutal murder of Zack and utter desecration of his body? What about Cloud dragging himself to Zack's body, taking Zack's sword, going beyond insane and convincing himself within a few seconds that Zack's life is his own?! The train station! WHAT ABOUT THAT STUFF?




Maybe they should just go ahead and animate the entire game, is all I'm saying.

It could be, but if that was the case, then the writers of the story are obligated to point this out to the audience. I do like when some things are left up in the air to be inferred, but I'm not wild about contradictions that come out of nowhere. To me, those are just plot holes and / or sloppy retrofitting. I understand they didn't spend a lot of time on Last Order, what with perfecting the mind-blowing awesomeness that is Advent Children and all--but they could have at least replayed the game so they could knowledgably address this contradiction.

Besides, it was so awesome in the game when Cloud willed his body back to the ground (talk about chi!) and threw Sephiroth. I as waiting to see that.

As far as Cloud's eyes go, I had always figured that all SOLDIERS down to the lowliest were exposed to Mako. I had also just assumed that most Shinra personnel who might be involved in any kind of battle were exposed to it, too. So that didn't bug me out too much.
