I wrote a hefty number of pages today. The more I write, the less nerve I have to actually write. I know that soon I'll be finished with this novel, and then it'll be time to rewrite it. Rewriting is actually about 3/4 of my process. On one hand, that's a comforting thought to me: I can't make the damned thing much worse--rewriting can only improve it. On the other hand, it's daunting, because I have to re-read my own nonsense and go, "Jaysus, I can't believe I wrote that."
After I write a lot, I like to drawbadly. With nothing new in my head that I felt like drawing, I decided to diddle with some older stuff. So I took this thing and diddled with it a while.

I made it bigger, which messed with the resolution rather a lot. Then I went about trying to smooth it and stuff. I semi sorta like the effect of the pencil/computer smudginess of it. But yet again, I managed to mess up his face. When I did the original, it was with Joaquin Phoenix on the brain (and as a photo reference.) I decided to take the Joaquin-ness out of him somehow, and ended up making him look not quite like he looks in my head anyway. I'm so weird with stuff like that. (I also just noticed the link I put on that Elfwood page, with the very first original sketch. Very odd. The text below reminded me of my original intention for this picture: "It was supposed to be more like a 'you name it, I've done it twice; Go and have your soul sucked out by a man-eating demon and then I'll think about listening to you whine.'" And I pretty much lost that vibe in the colored, redone version. Ah well.)
I'm lj spamming tonight. Sorry about that.
