Nice things again (and more google searches)

I've been doing lots of yardwork this year on my days off. This is the first year since Dad that I've actually made an effort to make things nice again out there. I kind of had a block against it for a while – I guess because Dad would always lend me the gardening tools, help me set things up, stuff like that. But this year, maybe it's a combination of having a little pool again, and of things having looked like total hell for the last few years (and the broken aviary, stuff like that,) that's making me want to tidy up and Have Nice Things again.

Last night at Kung Fu, we did some staff drills. The *clack clack clack* sound of the staffs hitting against each other is pleasing. I know it's a martial art, but it sounds friendly. I was partnering with Snarklit.



Empress came hobbling on by (she sprained her ankle) and the three of us started talking about maybe doing a group outing or something, going for lunch and kayaking when Lady Chrysanthemum gets back.

Apart from that, there is some stuff going on in other aspects of life which I will eventually need to address in some locked posts.

I've taken a shine to gardening recently too, or rather, I should say, the desire to take a shine to it, without much time or function habit yet. Growing up my mom had a massive garden that wrapped around the house. Even in her recent apartment, the patio overflowed with plants. I just have a little rocky front yard, so far, but the two bushes from the previous occupants I am delighted to find, are indeed roses. One even started to bloom, but avast! I have aphids.

That clack is one of the world's finer sounds. La vida!

What is a pillow penis, anyway? I'm hesitant to search on a public wifi...

I've been i love with flowers and gardens for about twelve years. It's really hit and miss. For aphids, you can buy some bugs to eat them, or you can spray with Neem oil. It smells nasty, but it works! And it's harmless to wildlife, that's the best part.

LOL I think that person was searching probably for a screencap of Ewan McGregor naked in The Pillow Book. :D Which I do not have on this LJ, sadly.

I've looked into planting some herbs to attract mantids and ladybugs, but I'm also thinking I'll buy some if I can find a supplier.

I've been dodging the gardening so far this year. They announced on the news that we are having a drought and multiple water companies announced a hosepipe ban. As you can imagine, it's rained like you wouldn't believe everyday since. This is the wetest drought I've ever known. me and mum keep looking out the window saying "it's too wet to mow that lawn, what a shame. better have another cuppa instead".
