Hooo boy. I guess I knew that Kung Fu wasn't going to be easy, I just didn't think it was going to get so difficult so quickly. The younger men with greenbelts and up in the class are so freaking fast and strong, I can't seem to keep up with them. I'm one of these people who doesn't pace herself; if everyone else is doing all of these things at once, I have to be doing the same thing. But tonight, for the first time, I had to actually make myself sit down before I fell down. All of a sudden I felt really lightheaded and had that kind of nausea, sweating feeling like right before everything turns black. (FTR I think I'm coming down with something; last week I felt dizzy all day. Also I was in a rush before I left for class and I just had some soup and bread. That may seem like a lot to some people, but it's about half of what I can eat at dinner time. ;) I'm a high calorie girl, I need a lot of food to keep going.)

But nobody noticed that I had to sit down and have a drink of water, so it was all good. And then! It was time to put some of the moves into actual fighting situations. We did the "jumped from behind and grabbed in a choking headlock" scenario and had to learn to buckle the other person's knee from under them, fall back on the ground with them, roll over, cover their eyes and punch them in the face. (Except without really punching.) Lemme tell you, when you do that falling backwards stuff? It's best to try to throw out your hand or elbow first, instead of landing on your head. I hit my head so hard that the flourescent lights above faded to black for a few seconds. And I thought, "Ow! Jesus! That sucks!" But then I thought, "What would Jackie do?" I realized he would get up, rub his head really fast, and give the thumbs up sign, and so that's what I did.

I have to keep asking myself, what would Jackie do?

Man, but he makes it look so easy.

Anyway, my thigh muscles are still shaking as if I'd done a Hula Noho for about an hour. My plans for the evening? A cup of hot chocolate and a movie, then bed.

Whooo! Sounds hard, but in the good way. I haven't pushed myself half as hard as I did pre-christmas season, and I miss the "God, I trained so hard my thighs are shaking" feeling. Thanks so much for posting this! It's really inspiring me!

And don't worry about being as fast or as strong as the greenbelts! They've been training longer, and you'll get to that level eventually. Keep at it, and don't dehydrate!

You're probably doing even more than when you first started, but you've gotten so string and are so used to it by now that you don't even feel it anymore. Holy crap!

And don't worry about being as fast or as strong as the greenbelts! They've been training longer, and you'll get to that level eventually.

Thanks, I hope you're right! We shall see....
