Easy! Cait Sith came in after the rest of Avalanche and radiod for help. Then the Turks came back and rescued him. Elena's line to Cloud, "You've got some nerve doing my boss like that," was just a coverup so that Avalanhche would think he was dead.

I've had this all worked out in my head for about five years. ;)
