Blather, rinse, repeat

I'm not sure how not to be anonymous, but this is Lee. As always, Jules, you write so well. An old friend who was writer and teacher of writing once told me she would tell her students, "The key to good writing is good thinking." I believe this is another way of saying the key to good writing is to tell your truth. I have never read or heard you not tell your truth.

Let me be clear that the emphasis here is on "truth", not "your". The truth is that joking about rape is not funny. The truth is that joking about crime and violation can help to perpetuate crime and violation. The truth is that too many people have been violated and would find this not only not funny, but devastating. To fail to recognize this - by anyone - shows a lack of sensitivity, or perhaps in a more positive light an immaturity. I am not targeting only anyone in that statement, but everyone.

Anyone who fails to see this, take some time and think it through. I have and value in myself a fairly bizarre sense of humor but these ads or jokes or whatever you might call them are only bizarre and are completely lacking in humor. To find them funny is to find rape funny.

Rape is not funny. As I said, think it through.
