I would love to hear more about this African Grey story. Those birds are truly amazing. I was watching Animal Cops: Houston the other night, and they confiscated some birds that had been neglected and possibly abandoned - left with dirty cages and without water for days to weeks at a time. There was a blue and gold macaw, a rainbow macaw, and an African Grey. The Grey was so agitated it had started to pluck its feathers out, and they showed the owner in court arguing that this was normal for Greys. Is a dirty cage with no water normal, too, buddy? Anyway, they confiscated the animals and sent them to new homes. Why anyone would own three such expensive, hard-to-care-for birds and not even make an effort to care for them properly is beyond me. Dude, get a parakeet instead. Or better yet, no pet at all. Keeping them clean, fed, and watered is the basics of the basic. (That's not even mentioning how badly overgrown their claws and beaks were.)
I don't know a lot about birds but I do love them. I'm thinking of getting a bird when I get my own place, perhaps.
