IRON MAN

IRON MAN.

I'm a huge movie-cynic. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief to a point, but usually when things get preposterous I get annoyed. I hate cliches. I hate America superhero cliches. I hate American cliches. One of my biggest pet peeves in movies is when the superhero has a female assistant who is modest, stalwart, under-appreciated, smart, and occasionally in need of rescue.

These things annoy me in movies.

However I can tell you unreservedly that Iron Man is the best movie I have seen in quite a few years and probably will see in the next few.

OMG you guys, please go see it. It was so good.

The other thing that really impressed me about the movie was that it dared to tread into dangerous territories for big Hollywood movies: American accountability, the evils of warmongering, and the notion that not everyone from a place with lots of sand is the enemy. They didn't go too deeply or fearlessly--with the political climate what it is, a film like this really can't yet--but they did go there at least and it was heartening.

Okay, there were, of course, a few mistakes and a few plot holes that annoyed me, but not so much that it destroyed the movie for me. One thing that bugged me was how it took Tony Stark forever to learn how to maneuver his mecha (sorry guys, I am a manga/anime fan at heart and this, to me, is total mecha,) but when the bad guy (don't want to spoil the movie so I'll just say "bad guy" here) gets into his for the first time, he's like a natural at it and doesn't have to practice. That gave me a moment of WTFness but even during that I was just like "OMGOMGOMGFANPOODLE" anyway, so.

And RDJ is just about as hot as they come, gotta say. I grew up watching his films. I had little choice in the matter because my cousin who lived with me was/is obsessed with him. Either way I've always found him compelling and incredible, even at his worst times. Yet now, not only is he even more the actor he used to be, he's also fully goddamn meffing hot and deserves props just for looking really healthy and beautiful.

Also, the ending made me ROFL and want to cheer my fool head off at the same time.
