Holiday recap
Dec. 25th, 2006 01:09 pmLet me take a moment to acknowledge the loss of James Brown, because, troubled as he was, I always did love his music. That kidn of brings today down.
Moving on: Mostly a lovely holiday, with the exception that I had to work today. Well, it wasn't so bad and I'm done already, so that's all right.
Yesterday I decided that as a gift to my dogs, I'd take them to the beach. Trisky and Sano love the beach, but Haku hadn't been there yet. I love taking Trisky there and I should to it more often (it's only about a quarter mile walk for godsakes,) but then I have to take Sano and he's really terrible on the leash. Trisky was great and she was thrilled to be there, but then she got cold and wanted to go home. I guess I'll take here again in the spring. She prances like a princess when she's there.
( Trisky prancing on the beach: )
Then I took the boydogs together. Haku was really good on the leash but Sano almost got us killed a few times. Haku seemed to like being there, except I think the wind and water confused him. Still, they looked really cute.

With the fact that I was working today in mind, my folks and Gran and I did Christmas last night, and UD, Betsy, SB and Meg came over, too. It really was the usual holiday gathering, with food and video games. The usual gamer crew--UD, SB, Meg and I--were gathered around the TV while I played Twilight Princess, the three of them talking me through the end of the water temple which they had beat the night before. Betsy made some hardcore eggnog which was really delish.
What'd I get? WELL! Let me tell you! My folks got me some goodies from Mitsukoshi (back in November,) so I had some really cool stuff from there, like a cute cell phone strap, two bowls with a nice bamboo design and other doodads; a cute fountain for my window and some other house-ish goodies like some candle holders; some chocolate; the neatest little gadget called a Zina, which is a keychain that will hold 50 teeny digital pictures; POTC2 and Jet Li's Fearless; and the SONY VEGAS MOVIE STUDIO! Woohoo! Now my music video making skills will be nigh unstoppable. Gran got me the entire Monty Python collection! I geeked out over it in the worst way, reading the back of every one and realizing that I do, in fact, know every single episode. A lot of people say that, but in my case it's true. UD, Betsy and the kids got me a gift card to Target and one to Best Buy.
I got Meghan some KH2 manga and the Axl doll she'd been freaking out over when we saw it at Mitsukoshi. She wigged out, like I figured she would. She's very easy to make happy, but I knew that these were pretty good gifts that no one else would have thought of. I got Spencer a real ukulele, which he's been wanting for years. It's not one of the crappy ones you can buy in a tourist store, but a real soprano ukulele that I found for an amazing price. He was also thrilled and spent much of the rest of the night figuring out how to play it. I mean, immediately. He picked it up and could play it. O_o

Today when I came home from work, Chris and Tim were already at my folks' house. I was real excited to give them their gifts so I got changed as quick as I could and ran on up. I had gotten them this adorable solar powered yard light, a statue of a boxer dog (which they love) holding a lantern. More importantly I got them a book on Korean lore and customs. (They are adopting from Korea, and with any luck, it should be pretty soon.) So I was psyched to see if they'd like it and they did. I'm particularly looking forward to this because they asked me to be godmother (and SB to be godfather.) So anyway, then they gave me my gift which was, for one thing, the 2nd season of House (woohoo!) And the second thing they got me ( was this: )
It's Korean for "godmother" so of course I got all emo and Chrissie got all emo and my Mom got all emo ... It was pretty funny. (the necklace you see above it is the one Kim made me for Christmas; the symbol for eternity, and a reminder to get to work on my novel. ^_^ )
So, that was that and it was lovely. I have the rest of today, as well as part of tomorrow and Wednesday to play with all my toys. I think I'll install my new movie program in a bit and make some videos, then later probably just chill with Twilight Princess today. Thursday and Friday it's back to work, and Friday is the Kung Fu party (well, we hope!) which is like the season's last hurrah, at least for me. Then it's back to the usual grind: work, Kung Fu, work at Kung Fu, Hula, and the dolphin team. Back to being out of the house 7 days a week. But for now...!
Oh! And one more thing, because this was cute:
