The wedding, and other things...
Aug. 21st, 2006 02:44 pmMichelle and Rob's wedding was very sweet and super fun. They got married outdoors by the water. Everyone walked down the aisle to Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World." Michelle brought her little terrier Chant with her and she walked down the aisle, too. (She is such a sweet-tempered, calm little dog. Oddly, I didn't see Chant after the ceremony. Hmm.) When I got there, Michelle gave me a fresh lei, which she totally did not have to do since I wasn't in the wedding party, so that was entirely generous of her.
After the ceremony there was a bit of dancing and mingling. It wasn't until around 8:15 that C&C (the other two dancers in the group) showed up. Everyone was lining up for dinner by then. I had to ask Jenn J. to throw some veggies on a plate for me, since I wouldn't get a chance to get dinner. C&C and I went into this little sitting room outside of the ladies room and got our gear together. Once everyone was seated for dinner, we went on. I was nervous about dancing during dinner--a notoriously bad time to perform--so I asked all my friends to clap, even if we totally messed up. They did not fail me.
We did Waikiki Hula, and the applause was overwhelming. The DJ had the music turned WAY up. We did the Wedding Song, which was very sweet. Some changing music, and then we came out with the Tahitian set. My friends went nuts; it was deafening. During some parts of it, it was strangely quiet, but as I looked around, eveyone has smiles on their faces. But at the end of each song, they would all scream and stamp and clap. At the final Tahitian song, it was just mayhem.
My friends = the best audience EVER. We got so much energy from them and they were so supportive. Michelle and Rob were very happy with the performance and they felt it added a lot to their wedding reception, so I was very, very glad to give them that gift. Even my boss came up to me afterwards and said it was awesome. Everyone liked it very much, thank goodness.
After our set, I got back into my 'auana dress (it's what I wore to the wedding,) and the DJ put on all the usual wedding dance favorites, and some others, too. No matter how I feel about marriage in general (that it's not for me,) I LOVE weddings, and mostly for this reason. I love to dance, and dancing at a wedding is different than dancing at a club, isn't it? It's more fun at a wedding. You're with all your friends and you're just there to have a blast and not compete. Strangers don't get in your face; well, usually they don't. And, as I usually do at weddings (and keep in mind, there has been one wedding a summer for the last three years, and there will be one next summer, too,) which is to start dancing when the music starts, and not stop until it ends. ot counting the Hula and the Tahitian that I did earler, I started dancing at around 9 PM and didn't stop until 11:30 except to get a glass of juice now and then, and go to the bathroom once or twice. All of my friends, and especially Casse, are really good dancers, too. We just all get in a circle and go crazy. It's too much fun. By 11 I was just jumping around like a fool, like I usually do. My calves are still sore from all the jumping, actually.
( Watch me jump around like a fool! )
Yup, the jumping bean in the back, wearing the green 'auana dress; that's me.
I got home at midnight, exhausted, hair all sweaty and tangled. I wish that the bunch of us could have a party like this every summer. Well, I suppose if all my friends keep getting married, we will do just that. ;)
Oh, and this is what else is going on: 30 Seconds to Mars has said that they're playing a concert in NYC next Wednesday, and we were all to wait yesterday morning to get the details and to order tickets. We are all still waiting. *bites fingernails* NERVOUS! Have not been to a rock concert in literally years. Do not know my way around the city. Not even sure I can take time off BOTH jobs at this point.
Still waiting...
