Fresh Praline indeed
May. 3rd, 2006 03:02 pmI went to Home Depot and agonized over paint for a while, before semi-deciding on one called "fresh praline" that looked nice and warm in the picture. I only got a quart, just in case. Then on the way home, this guy in a big truck almost killed me by pulling out in front of my MOVING CAR to make a left into incoming traffic. When I blew the horn at him, he stopped in the middle of the lanes--before having completed the turn, you know, so that he was blocking both lanes of traffic--and rolled down his window to scream some things. Then he took out some papers and started waving them around. I don't know what he was saying because I was playing music. I just stood on the horn until he moved. I wanted to roll down my window and make some suggestions about how he and his mother should spend the rest of the afternoon, along with the suggestion that it would be no different from any other afternoon, but I didn't. The guy actually stood his truck right there, across the two lanes, ranting for about thirty seconds before moving on. Why are people so goddamned crazy?
When I got home, I knew I didn't have the spit to go back out and buy the entire gallon (maybe two) that I would need if I wanted to paint in earnest today. That's all right, though, because I tested "fresh praline" on a spot on the wall and I hate it. It's peach. Just plain peach, and they gussied it up with a cute name. I just have to go darker, is all. I spent about an hour on the internet, looking at pictures of Mediterranean and old European styles before finding something that I think I like. It's a light, reddish brown, a terra cotta kind of thing. It looked good over stucco (unfortunately, that's what I have, otherwise I'd be all over it with faux.) I guess I'll have to go back Saturday after my classes, if the kids aren't here. Then on Sunday Jeremy is coming over. I probably won't even get started painting until next Monday.
House is on tonight, and I'm going to have to just set up my VCR before I go, and ask Mom to come and tape it for me while I'm at Kung Fu. The last two times I did that, it didn't work, and I ended up having to download it. I so hope I don't have to do that again.
When I got up this morning, I was pretty excited, figuring that I'd have at least one wall painted already, and some tiles picked out. (They do have some really nice, cheap press on ones, actually.) But now I think I'll just play some more KHII. Which, by the way, I finally beat Demyx. It took me abotu two hours, over the course of two days, to beat him. Now I have to beat Sephiroth before I can finish the Cloud / Tifa arc? WTF. Why is he so much harder in KHII then he was in FFVII? You know, in his prime and all? When he was still alive and stuff?
Ugh, I just feel like I wasted the whole afternoon. I hate that!
