Laura called me last night to tell me that Cid, my nice little robin she had been trying to rehab with some other birds, had died overnight. Just the night before she had called me to tell me how well he was doing. It's not her fault at all. She was trying to help me out with him, a little joint-custody thing we do with birds occasionally depending on who has the better set up at the time. Cid had always had siezures, and there were so many times when I thought about putting him to sleep, only to have him suddenly rally and start doing really well for a few weeks. We had both been in hopes that he could eventually have a nice little life in a non-releasable aviary, maybe fostering other robins over the summer. It was so disappointing. Cid was a sweet little bird and it made me sad the rest of the night.

Only a handful of people ever have helpful things to say to me about drawings and stuff, and oddly, they are the ones who never or hardly ever post any drawings of their own. I like to comment on art that I like. If I were at all able to give any helpful tips--that is to say, if I knew what I was talking about--I would probably take pleasure in doing that, too. But as it stands now, phooey on that. Anyway, if the only way you can get people to acknowledge you is to comment on their stuff, then is it worth it after all? It sucks to have to ask that question.

What doesn't suck is Oceans of Hope tonight! At least, I hope it won't suck. The crew is going to be different this time. I'm really going to miss Tricia tonight, that's for sure. Who will pose with me by Naked Leaf Guy? Well, I'm sure a few people would, but I don't want to pose by Naked Leaf Guy without Tricia. And I'm not sure I'll be staying to dance until midnight, either. But still, it is so much fun to get all tarted up and go to Atlantis. Casse and I decided we were going to goth it up, just to be different. All this week at work, just like every week before Oceans of Ho, it was, "What are you going to wear Saturday?" "What are you going to do with your hair?" "Who are you driving with?"

I love the adorable design on that page, too. The smiling seal just kills me with cuteness.

Last week when I got Jason and Marley (and posted that picture of him,) I also went out to the bookstore to pick up this month's Writer magazine and then Blockbuster to get What The Bleep Do We Know. At the bookstore, I commented on the cashier's t shirt, which had a cute Gryffindor design on it. I was wearing my Zelda T shirt and she went all "OMG ZELDA!" over it. I asked her if she had heard that Twilight Princess got pushed to November, and she freaked out right there behind the counter, going, "BASTARDS! BASTARDS! How could they?!" Then I said, "Hey, but we have Dirge of Cerberus coming out over the summer," and she asked if I had seen Advent Children, which quickly snowballed into an adult squeefest over "OMG what was your favorite part?!" (Hers was anything with the Turks.) After that I went to Blockbuster for that movie, and this other girl there, who sort of reminded me of the book store girl, asked if I had seen a movie called Waking Life. She recommended it highly, saying that it was awesome for people who really like Quantum and string theory, and the philosophical questions that sometimes went along with those two theories, and who weren't good at the math parts. I told her I would pick it up the next time.

So I went there today and asked for Wakning Life, telling the young man behind the counter that one of the girls here had recc'ed it strongly. He said, "Oh, Alyson. She tries to get everyone to watch that. She was supposed to be in today, but she broke her shoulder last night." And I just felt so terrible for her! Poor Blockbuster girl. I told him to tell her that the String Theory Girl had picked up her recc'ed movie, and hoped that she is better soon.

Blah blah, then I came home, vacuumed, cleaned Jason and Marley's tank (quite a challenge trying to clean all those pebbles and regulate the water etc, poor Jason and Marley swimming around in one of my drinking cups till I was done,) then cleaned and fed the birds, watered the plants, had lunch, looked at some web pages, and otherwise put off writing more. I think the mojo is leaving again. I should really try to catch it before it flees entirely.

Oceans of Ho tonight, Spencer's play tomorrow, and then Spring is just around the bend, isn't it? Hard to imagine when it was all of ten degrees last night.

My puppy is whining and it's really annoying me. I should take him outside before I up and flick him in the head for being a pain.
