Winter thunder and other things
Mar. 2nd, 2006 04:41 pmHere we are in the middle of another snow storm-ish type thing. It's not a blizzard like last time, basically it's just plain winter snowfall, mixed with ice. I had a nice slide home, actually. FIshtailed twice. That's because nobody ever plows the roads out here, as I might have mentioned in the past. But just about ten minutes ago I was on the phone with Laura, and *ZZZZZZZT! RUMBLE CRASH!* Huge lightning and house-shaking thunder. I remember years ago I had an argument with a friend who insisted that there was no such thing as thunder and lightning in the winter months. It got really heated, because she would insist that between Dec 21st and March 21st thunder and lightning just didn't happen. When I told her yest it did, she said that what she had meant to say was that it never happened while it was snowing, and I had just misunderstood her. I told her, even so, there can still be thunder and lightning when it snows. This argument went on for days. So now everytime there is thunder or lightning during the winter or during snow, that's what I remember.
And now the outside birds are all acting weird. My lovely mockingbird came back this morning, too. Haven't seen him in a while. He was perched in the same spot that Hiko always perched when he made his nest in the tree across the way. I call all of these birds "Hiko No Baby," fangirl Japanese, you know, because I've always thought that these birds were his babies and grandbabies.
Earlier today I was chasing my damned puppy because he wouldn't come inside, so here I am, outdoors in the ice and snow for ten minuets in my slippers, my hair dripping wet because I had just come out of the shower, chasing a puppy that I can't even really see because he blends in with the snow. When I caught him I lugged him inside. And then promptly slipped on the tiles and twisted my ankle and jammed my knee. OUCH IT HURTS and it also SUCKS very badly.
I was supposed to go to Kung Fu tonight in Holbrook, Tristan's school, but between the icy roads and my stupid ankle and knee, I am sitting home blogging instead.
Erica sent me the DVD of the AC tourney from a few weeks ago. The first thing is Tristan's sword form, which was, I have to say, awesomely beautiful. I love the flashing sword with the scarves on the handle, and I love all the movements. And Tristan does things flashy to begin with, so it was really quite something to see. And then came the cage-fighting matches. (Which, I swear I can't even think of without being reminded of Napolean Dynamite.) It was hard to tell who was who, because of the head-gear and the cages, and I was confused by the first fight. I'm guessing it was the one guy I didn't know. Then came the second match which was Tristan, who I recognized immediately by his arms. Then he was difficult to miss because of the huge fan-or-seashell design right on the crotch of his shorts. WTF? But anyway he kept doing these wonderful roundhouse and cut-kicks. It was great.
Oooooh, thunder again, and big snowflakes. And there goes poor Sano, hiding in my bathroom like a big panty.
Ah well. Work tomorrow, long day, and then Kung Fu Saturday afternoon, and then Oceans of Ho(pe) Saturday night. And then Spencer's play on Sunday afternoon, which I think Jeremy is coming to see, too. Should be interesting.
Meanwhile, I know just how to finish up the Leander / Khinegrek Ivy chapter. I think.
