End of year meme
Dec. 8th, 2005 08:34 pmEnd of year meme stolen--STOLEN, I say!--from
d_r_o_n_e:
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before? Surfed the Atlantic, gone parasailing, taken Kung Fu.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don't tend to make resolutions at the end or beginning of the year. If something bugs me enough to change it, I'll try anytime.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? No, but my cousin is due next month. Again.
4. Did anyone close to you die? No, thank goodness. (*knock on wood*)
5. What countries did you visit? None, sadly.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?Nookie. Um, nothing, really. A few million dollars? A job as a dance teacher? Yeah, those would be all right.
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? The first night I went to Kung Fu. The day I got up all kinds of early and drove to Smithpoint to take a surfing lesson. I loved that.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Kung Fu? Damn, this is getting repetitive. Well, and a good Hula show or two, actually.
9. What was your biggest failure? Everything I wrote this year, I think. Novel-wise.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? A cough that I can't shake, three months now. The usual knee problems, though not as bad as last year.
11. What was the best thing you bought? It seems weird to think of Haku in terms of merchandise, but as I did pay for him, I'd have to say my new puppy.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? My parents speaking out against Bush and a lot of the evils going on in the world. My cousin Chrissie and her husband Timmy, for hanging in there and still having time for others when most people would have given up or blamed the world for their troubles. My two friends Tricia and Kim for just being as generous as they always are.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Well, aside from Bush and his ilk? Someone I can't name publically. But I'm sick of him. Oh, and a few idiots on the internet.
14. Where did most of your money go? Hula seminars, Kung Fu membership, and worms for my birds over the summer.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Kung Fu again! A few new Hulas I learned. Advent Children! As I'm sure everyone here knows already.
16. What song will always remind you of 2005? Winter: Kung Fu Fighting Remix by Bus Stop and White Bird, Cosmic Gate Remix by Vanessa Mae. Summer: I Just Want It To Be Over, Keisha Cole and Alicia Keys; Wouldn't It Be Nice, Beach Boys. Autumn: Bach Street Prelude, Vanessa Mae; Nessun Dorma, all different versions; Winter: If It Be Your Will, Leonard Cohen; My Humps, Black Eyed Peas.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier with most things I guess.
ii. thinner or fatter? Slightly thinner. About five pounds worth, maybe.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer, I guess.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Writing.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Thinking about writing.
20. How will you be spending Christmas/New Years? Christmas, probably with family, and then I'll rent a movie to watch late at night. New Years, probably working.
21. Which LJ people did you meet this year? No one IRL.
22. Did you fall in love in 2005? With various songs, movies, art and things like that. Crushed on a handful of men, to no avail.
23. How many one-night stands? None.
24. What was your favorite TV program? House, naturally!
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? I don't hate over petty crap, but there are a few people I realized I want completely out of my life. Melissa comes to mind.
26. What was the best book you read? Hook by J.V. Hart.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Vanessa Mae. Would like to say Leonard Cohen, but I've already been in love with a few of his songs for a number of years. I'll add him anyway though, because lately I've fallen in love with all of his CDs, writing, and the man himself.
28. What did you want and get? A puppy! Kung Fu classes. To go surfing and parasailing. The chance to look at a really cute guy once a week. Or once every few weeks, actually.
29. What did you want and not get? Said cute guy. A job teaching. The nerve to write and send a query letter.
30. What was your favorite film of this year? Advent Children, hands down.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I was 33, and apparently I stayed at home and made a music video to some crappy animations that I'd done from my own drawings.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Geez, how many ways does this thing have of asking the same damn question?
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003? The same as pretty much every year I guess, only I am wearing my Green Cloud shirts and black Kung Fu pants three times a week now.
34. What kept you sane? Kung Fu again. Jaysus.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Does Cloud Strife count?
36. What political issue stirred you the most? Anything that Bush said or did that made me have to shut the damn TV off everytime he opened his mouth, spewed his nonsense, and then did that stupid, arrogant smirk.
37. Who did you miss? Spencer. I never see that boy anymore.
38. Who was the best new person you met? Loads of people from Kung Fu, but especially Lao Shir, Sifu, Lee, Erica, Mitzi, Nicolette, and Tristan, naturally.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005: I am stuck with my looks? Oh, wait, I haven't learned that one yet.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I actually quoted this last week, but I guess it works as the one I want to choose:
I greet you from the other side
Of sorrow and despair
With a love so vast and shattered
It will reach you everywhere
And I sing this for the captain
Whose ship has not been built
For the mother in confusion
Her cradle still unfilled
For the heart with no companion
For the soul without a king
For the prima ballerina
Who cannot dance to anything
Through the days of shame that are coming
Through the nights of wild distress
Though your promise count for nothing
You must keep it nonetheless
You must keep it for the captain
Whose ship has not been built
For the mother in confusion
Her cradle still unfilled
Leonard Cohen
