Mar. 19th, 2005 10:01 pmSpencer's band came in third place last night at the Battle of the Bands! I could hardly believe him up there on stage, getting down with his bad self, not only playing wicked bass, but singing at the same time and all kinds of dancing around. My Spencer! He looked so happy up there when they got the trophy. I got loads of pics and I can't wait to see them. This wasn't a bunch of kiddie bands goofing off, either, and the judges were serious musicians. It was a very loud, very long, very raucous rock/speed ska show. Poor Gran sat through the whole thing looking kind of startled, just waiting to see if Spencer would win. Even getting home around midnight, she thought it was worth it just to see him holding the trophy.
I got some pics of Meg, too, as she sat next to me. I had to, because she's getting her braces off soon and she's losing her girlish face and starting to look like a young adult. I tried to tell her that, and she laughed. I said, "Meg, you're freaking me out. You're getting this young lady face thing going on." And right after Spencer's band played (they played second,) this group of mid-teens came on with a girl singer, and we had high hopes that they would be pretty decent. Then they started singing praises to Jesus, and didn't stop. Not once in their entire set did they say or sing anything that wasn't zealously religious. When they started, Meghan and I looked at each other and just cracked up. Meghan started moshing with her hands in prayer position in front of her face and I just lost it. I told Meghan, "You know, it's okay to laugh at religious freaks." ;D Actually, everyone in my family looked a little bit, "WTF... this is hilarious yet disturbing." My Mom carries these mints around and I was passing one to Betsy and as she took it I told her, "Take, eat, in rememberance of me." And when their set was done I said to my Mom, "You know, we shouldn't be laughing. I hate to see such misguided youth; it just makes me sad." I guess my entire family is irreverent to the point of...irreverence, I guess. (I am here at the department of redundancy department, where I deal with redundancy.)
Anyway, so tomorrow is the first day of Spring. Today it was in the 40s or so--still cold, but not freezing. When I went to Kung Fu this morning, I was just wearing my sweater. (Well, and clothes, too, obviously. ^_^;; ) Kung Fu was a little boring today because Lao Shir was out sick and I didn't learn any new moves. But the girl who teaches the younger class was there to oversee everyone practicing. She had forgotten (or didn't know the adult version of) the form I'm working on, so she couldn't teach me the next moves, but she did help me fine tune my stances. I'm always down for that, because I'm a lazy cow and I can get sloppy if I stop paying attention.
I need spring. Not just the solstice, but the actual weather, with the warm and the melty and the sun and whatnot.
Oh, le sigh. The other day I started jonzing for Windwaker. I think it was because it came out in March a few years ago and that's when I was playing it. So I busted out my second game wherein I get to wear the pajamas and keep the camera from the beginning of the game, and the Hylian stuff is all translated. The gameplay of this game is pretty good, even if I resented the graphics. The actual game itself was fun to play and I like zipping that boat all around. I got up to where I got the sail, so I'm going to go zip around again for a while. Ah, my exciting Saturday night. :)
