Strange days indeed
Feb. 26th, 2005 03:07 pmSuch strange times, sad and happy at once. I heard from one of my dearest and most beloved friends today, which was a surprise, because I haven't heard from him in about a year and a half. I'd only heard through mutual friends that he had been busy, between work and family matters.
Last week, while talking to one of those mutual friends, I heard that his wife passed away last month. I was sorry to find out that his family matters weren't all to the good (though there have been some births, too. Odd how things work.) Picking up the mail today, I had a letter from him with is new email address.
Anyway, I emailed him today and he emailed back, and he finished up his letter in Hawaiian, for me to translate, just like we always used to do. Even better, he asked if I remembered where we left off in Hawaiian language lessons, because he would like to get back to teaching me again. I was so thrilled. Though still feeling sad for his loss.
Anyway, I get to see him and a few other friends in a few months (October.) Definitely something to look forward to.
Unfortunately I can no longer link to websites about his wonderful work in an unlocked post. Maybe later I will link to his website in a friendslocked post.
Anyway, aside from that, today has been a lazy day for me. Last night I started to feel like I was coming down with something, but I was determined to go to Kung Fu this morning anyway. By the middle of the night my throat was pretty much closed up. I woke up this morning with fever and chills and aches. My joints feel like they're made of glass. The dogs were so rude, literally barking at me to get out of bed, which is something they never do. I got up and even had all my Kung Fu clothes laid out, but what stopped me wasn't the fever or aches or even the joints. It was the thought of doing jumping jacks with my head all stuffy; I could just imagine the headache. So I stayed home and unpacked my stuff, finally.
But, even the flu doesn't stay with me long. I have a tendency to get a really mild version of what knocks everyone else out, and then shake it off the next day. Tomorrow I'll be right as rain.
I really have to get to work on this dress if I want to take it in before Saturday. I should do that now, in fact, while I've got it in mind.
