la_belle_laide: (wtf)
So here I've got to take ashort break from video games and fanfiction and gardening to note: Ralph Nader is running this year. This puts me in a quandary, but not much more of one than my politally retarded self was before.

I voted for Nader last time. Why? Because, while I didn't like Bush, I hated Al Gore. The dems blame Nader's run for Gore's loss, but I'm still glad thatGore and his dead, shark eyes didn't get into office.

I know Bush has to go. The idea of him coming back for another four years just sorta makes my guts writhe.

I'm afraid I don't know enough about Kerry to be sure on where he stands on some
of My Pet Issues. I know he's taking Bush to task over this war, and that's good. I know he's taking Bush to task on his anti-choice stance, and that's good, too. (I'm going to be right the hell up front about my views on this: abortion must not be made illegal. It should be discouraged [no one likes abortion, is my guess,] but this whole "you must choose the unborn baby's life over that of the mother" BS makes me grind my teeth at night. I support the banning of partial birth abortion, however. I may be uninformed as to why there would be a need for this, but to me, if the baby is partially born, then it is a baby and not a fetus, and I see nothing to support killing it at that point. Any other instances, I think a woman should choose. I'd hate to have to make a decision like that myself, and I'd struggle with it [me, you know, wanting a baby as badly as I do,] but I couldn't bear to have that right taken away. What the hell would it serve to have more sad, unwanted children in this world? When you know that at least some of them would be born to unfit, or ill, or resentful mothers anyway--or to have lost their mothers as they were being born, you know? I know that sounds harsh, but it is harsh; you really can't pretty it up. Anyway.)

And homosexual marriage? I support that, also. It pisses me off how everyone's floundering about "leaving it up to the people" to decide. As if the majority should decide whom a person in love should marry! "Oh, no, you two men can't get married; we as a people don't want you to." Oh, on the one hand, the conservatives are all about, "We support gays, but this civil disobedience must stop! Civil disobedience is bad and wrong! In fact it's badong! Change is bad, and nothing good has ever come from civil disobedience! Rosa Parks who?" And on the other hand, I have no idea where Kerry stands on this. He seems to kind of say a lot without really saying anything about it.

For that matter, I'm not even clear on where Nader stands on these issues anymore, either. Ahh, this page puts him as supporting gay marriage, pro-choice, gun control (yay,) against this war, and he also takes a stand on Native American rights. If all of this was true, he'd really be my guy. (I don't know what to call myself in terms of liberal or conservative. I guess I'm mostly liberal, at least on those issues, but I support the hell out of the death penalty. Christ, I'd do it myself if I could. ;D ) I mean, then I'd really, really hope he would win--and not only that, but he would be the only one for whom I could vote with a clear conscience. If all of that was true, I'd hate to think of him as the spoiler who would put Bush back into office. I know Nader can't win. But I can't ever seem to force myself to vote for someone whom I don't believe in.

That's my quandary.

Well, back to video games and fanfiction and flowers.

ETA: Is there a presidential candidate who takes a stand against Mary Sues and Real Person Fic? ^_~
