Storm

Today we had this tremendous, unexpected storm. First let me tell you that we've been having a heat wave like whoa, okay, I'm talking about the wet air gets under your clothes and sticks to you, like 98 in the shade and record-breaking nonsense. For like a week. I don't mind, actually; I'm one of these freaks who loves the humidity, but I also like when it breaks.

So we're at work, and let me say that today sucked all kinds of horse balls: this kind, that kind and the other. I don't know, it was just busy and hectic, and everyone was in a mood, me included. I start the day alls tressing because this girl that works there (and I love her, I think she's awesome and fun and very kind, so it's not personal,) is taking birds home without telling me, and now she's raising a robin, which, from what it looks like, she's just going to give back to the people who brought it in, and let them basically throw it back into their yard, completely imprinted and helpless. As much as I asked her not to do that, to please just let me put it in the aviary for at least a week with other robins, I don't think she was hearing me. So I'm all stressed about this poor bird.

Also there are other things going on, too, one or two people thinking Oh it makes me feel so lovely to pretend I'm better than kennel people because now I put dog crap in a tube instead of the garbage, and basically everyone sort of in everyone else's face, loads of work, not enough space, and a handful of emergencies. Ugly all around.

And then at around 4, purple clouds came rolling in and Gabi told us we should all go and close our windows. Casse and I went outside to do this, then hung around to see how quickly the storn was coming.

Very quickly, was our answer. We stood outside watching the lightning get closer and closer, but the coolest part was the leaves. The wind was so feirce and coming from just one direction (northwest,) that it ripped all the little leaves off the trees, I swear it was jsut like the beginning of Final Fantasy VIII, me in the field like a dork, pretending to be Rinoa if you can picture it. Casse videotaped some of it. And then lightning struck a few yards away from the tree that I was under. You could just about predict where the lightning was going to go next, so we just backed up everytime it came closer.

And then the rain came, torrential, and you know it's not going to last because it's too much at once, buckets pouring out of the sky, dripping so fast down the gates it looks like icicles. Casse and I decided to put the chickens and turkey inside, which was a good idea and we would have done anyway, but really it was an excuse to stay outside, I think. Michelle and Cristina came out, too, and we came indoors soaked, all excited like we had never seen rain before in our lives.

And then it was over. And about fifteen degrees cooler.

Right before closing, Casse asked to see the video I had made, and we decided to just grab it off yousendit and watch it in the last five minutes before we left. Only we didn't realize that the office manager was online from her house (the computers are connected,) and all of a sudden she's hearing this music I guess, and called work to complain to bossman that people were always downloading things and going to porn pages from the work computer. Right, because I'm making porn videos now. Which merits a heartly plate of "WHATEVER", but the idea is still kind of funny, bad animal caretakers, such thieving whores we are.

Driving home for the first few miles, trees were down and power was out, it looked like a hurricane had swept through. The farther I drove, the hotter it got: I watched the temperature climb back up to 94 as I got home, and everything was dry and still. The storm only hit a few miles of the North Fork.

Tomorrow is Hula, followed closely by Kung Fu, followed closely by bride's maid dress fitting.

Funnier stuff and some book stuff in a locked post to follow.
