Things that make one feel nostalgic - The scents of chlorine, coconut and citronella in the winter. Or a christmas tree scent in the summer. Handwritten letters. Revisiting a school library. A song from ten years ago that you haven't heard in a long time, and the way it makes you feel exactly like you felt back then. Trinkets from a long-ago vacation.

Hateful things - The sound of the alarm clock. Wasps and hornets. Ticks. People who are ignorant and bigoted. When the snow plow buries your car.

Soothing sounds - Tree frogs. Rain. The hum of a fish tank. Kitties purring. Ocean waves. Owls at night. A pool filter whirring. Fallen leaves tumbling down the street.

Things that make one's heart lurch - When the phone rings after 10 PM. Actually, when the phone rings at any time. When dogs start barking suddenly, for no apparent reason. When someone says, "Don't panic when I tell you this, okay?" When one of your parents gets sick. When you slip, trip, or miss a step on the stairs. When you hear that they're making your favorite book into a movie. When you flush the toilet, and the water starts to go up instead of down. When you see an unexpected message notification on Facebook and your first though is, "What did I do and is someone mad at me?"

I wonder if that Facebook reaction is universal, because I certainly have it, or what your reaction to people commenting on your status on Facebook tells the world about you. Probably just that everyone is different and unique.

Maybe so! I know I always get that moment of heart-clenching panic, that "OMG what happened?!" when I see that i have a message.
