I've never played FFVII (though I have bought Advent Children), but I know what you mean. I had the same thoughts running through my mind while playing Twilight Princess - when you get to the ruined temple in the forest, and walk through the door... it was a wonderful piece of nostalgia for those who had played and loved Ocarina of Time, and for me was what the Temple of Time could have been in OoT given today's technology.

That is a fair bit of why I like TP - it's full of nostalgia for the older games. And I dare say that if Nintendo did a revamp of OoT for the Wii I would buy it.
