"Save me, Syd."

And when you're sure that things can't get worse, Syd Barret dies. I've always loved Syd Barrett. And it's kind of weird: when I was 20, facing the first really big loss in my life--my Irish Setter named Cherry who'd been with me since I was five--there were two things that brought me any comfort. One was watching Are You Being Served, and the other was listening to Syd Barrett's solo CDs. I own everything the man ever released. Over the years since then I had not listened to his CDs much, because they always brought me back to that terrible time. (Which is why I'm not watching or listening to anything I really like now; because I don't want those things to be a reminder of this time.)

There used to be a rumor going around that someone was whispering the words "Save me, Syd," at the end of the Pink Floyd song "Julia Dream." My friends and I used to randomly whisper that around each other. This is going all the way back to the early 90s when I first got into Syd.

I took today off because I don't want to look at anybody or hear them or talk to them.

There are a ton of things I should be doing this morning that I don't have to do and wish I did.

I want to thank those of you who wrote me an email (well, no one on LJ actually,) or commented yesterday (all one of you.) I know I haven't answered yet, and I'm sorry for that, but I do appreciate it.
